Plex started acting super weird on me this last week. On top of the previous unresolved issues, now on my 2015 Sony Bravia TV with an up to date Plex app, I cannot watch any media at all. Whenever I browse into a show, no theme music plays like normal, maybe a frame will load from the show, pause for about 10s and then the app will reboot. Content doesn’t matter, TV, movie whatever.
App has been reinstalled. Server version rolled back 2 versions. TV has been factory reset. Error persists.
Is your TV an Android version or a Smart TV version. If Android, please check what version it is running. Some Bravia TVs got an Android firmware upgrade that fixed a lot of issues with Plex. See if your TV got this upgrade.
From the main page for your TV, there should be a way to get to settings. See if there is an about page. That should tell you what OS you are on. If it is Android, there should also be an option to check for updates.
So I looked and I see for software updates, which I am up to date. But you said firmware, and I don’t see a way to update android firmware. I’ll look into this more specific to my TV if there is a difference or if there is a specific number you’re looking for.
I believe the update that was received by others was Android version 8. I’m not sure how your TV would show this, but this Android version should be listed somewhere. The software update you checked might be the same thing to update the firmware. The important part is finding the version number.
If you can’t find this, we can try some trouble shooting. The first thing would be to try a factory reset of your TV. Again, this should be somewhere in the settings.
A 2015 TV doesn’t sound that old, but in terms of Android and Plex, it is. We can still try other trouble shooting things to see if there is something.
