I am using Plex for about 1 year and never had trouble with the Specials naming, but about 1month ago I noticed the new episodes titles are messed up, the title is the special title (but everything else is correct, like picture and description).
I download the Good Mythical More episodes from Youtube into: /Series/Good Mythical More/Season XX/YYY - Name.mp4 (and the jpg, same name)
The Specials are downloaded to: /Series/Good Mythical More/Specials/SXX/YYY - Name.mp4
At the Plex Web page, there is only 1 “instance” of the episode (but it shows there are 2 episodes “merged”).
The thetvdb page is correct, first the episode, then the special(even thought I don’t use their Special coding).
A TV Show Library/
…Good Mythical Morning/
…Season 00 (or “Specials” - Never really tried that myself)
…Good Mythical Morning - S00E800 - Good Mythical Crew Ep 40.xxx (the last listed episode - 800, that’s a lot)
…Season 10/ (we’ll jump ahead a bit)
…Good Mythical Morning - S10E01 - Makeup Contouring Challenge.xxx
You could do this by hand, or you could let FileBot do it for you (if it can get a grip on your exo-planetary naming scheme) in seconds (link in my signature).
@JuiceWSA :
Yeah, I planned on doing that, but then the Specials would not be “merged”, would they?
I mean, i.e. when I go to the Season 10, episode 20 and hit “play”, I can choose the episode or the special.
TheTVDB has the correct “absolute” number on the specials, but I don’t know how PLEX will behave =P
I will try it with a few specials =)
@trumpy81 :
Yeah, sorry, I typed wrong here hehe
I mean Good Mythical More =)
I don’t add the full “SeriesName-S0XEXX-EpisodeName” because the path length can be more than Windows can handle =/
I have no trouble renaming them tho, I use the Bulk Rename =)
The weird thing is.. it worked as a charm since I first tried. Now it is doing this =/
If the “Season 00/AbsoluteEpisodeNumber” works for me to play the episode and the special without me having to find the special on a HUGE list, I will do it, for sure! =D
Episode and Special “merged” (you can see it by the number 2 above the picture):
Let filebot name those episodes for you - because they have to look like:
A TV Show Library/
…Good Mythical Morning/
…Season 00 (or “Specials” - Never really tried that myself)
…Good Mythical Morning - S00E800 - Good Mythical Crew Ep 40.xxx (the last listed episode - 800, that’s a lot)
…Season 10/ (we’ll jump ahead a bit)
…Good Mythical Morning - S10E01 - Makeup Contouring Challenge.xxx
You can fight Plex tooth and nail if you want to, but if you do this once - right - you won’t have to keep futzing with it. I recently had to put every ‘abbreviated’ folder structure (no season folder) into an approved folder structure (season folder) 'cause Plex suddenly started pitching a ■■■■■ about it and I had episodes getting freaky on me. I put everything back into a pristine structure and the issues miraculously vanished. Plex and TVDB want this to go down ONE WAY.
According to the dates on the paired episodes/specials, when viewing from On Deck first one is going to play then the other, but I’m not sure which because they both have the same date. Maybe the play order will be alphabetical. I don’t know. You’ll have to try it and see what happens.
@trumpy81
But I like them merging! =D
That’s actually what I love about PLEX hehe
The issue is that the special title is getting the priority over the episode name. Checking my downloads, it didn’t happen til Oct 21th.
I think the latest Plex update changed something…
Well, I guess I will have to add the episodes, then lock the titles one by one and finally add the specials, so it will merge it with the episode but not override the title =)
Thanks for the help!
I tried renaming the episodes/specials, it added the Specials “season”, but this way, I will have to know which episode the special is tied to.
@JuiceWSA
Thanks, I do name other shows like this, when they don’t have lots of specials, like one “special” for every episode xD
I did rename the specials and episodes to those suggested, but it split the specials and I now have to find them separately, what I don’t like. (note: I have 2 LG TVs, one of them has a nice Plex app, I can play way more codecs and custom subtitles, the other uses the same UI as the DLNA it has… really old, so not all PLEX features are available, like the On Deck.)
As suggested by trump81, I will lock the episodes titles before adding new specials, it will be boring, but it will work hehe
Thanks for the info!
I still think they changed something from the October version to the latest one which resulted on my “bug”(I might send them an e-mail just to let them know)… but it’s better this way =)
