Split Apart ALL / Plex reporting?

Server Version#: 1.40.5.8897
Player Version#:

Hi all - im rebuilding my Plex library (long story) and am working through the c.3500 files. No problem.

Tagging to Collections en mass is REALLY helpful, as I only recently discovered - thanks forumites!

But I seem to now have a lot of files randomly Merged.

Do I really need to check each file individually for the Split Apart option? In Table View, Split apart is not shown when I select multiple items that I know are separate Merged files.

If ‘Split Apart All’ still isn’t an option, is Plex Reporting a thing? Can I run a report on my Library to at least highlight to me all files that contain one or more Merged files? I can then work through a significantly shorter list and individually Split Apart.

I hope that all makes sense!

Key to a low number of manual corrections is to stick to the file naming and folder organization guidelines.

If you find it daunting to check and correct a large number of files, use software which is able to apply the Plex guidelines (semi-)automatically.

Hi OttoKerner, thanks for the quick reply!

That’s good advice, but I am where I am now, and Im happy (at the moment) with my file naming / folder structure.

It sounds like ‘Split Apart All’ is not an option. Ok - but how about Reporting from Plex so I can at least understand the size of my task?

To be frank, it’s not primarily about you being happy with it, but whether it is an aid for Plex’s scanners and agents.
Trying to force your own organization into Plex will only lead to frustration and many, many hours of manual work. And then to more frustration.

Report what?
The number of duplicates (which potentially need to be split) can be filtered for.
If this is a tv show library, set the view mode to “Episodes”, before engaging the Duplicates filter.
Then look at the plex media info of the reported dups.

Anything else cannot be reported, because if Plex could recognize by itself that it made a mistake, it could equally treat the file correctly in the first place.

Fair comments, thankyou.

I will now go and read the Plex Guidelines

If you have to rename a million files look into an app to help with that chore.

Once you have your files organized for Plex, you will probably soon forget the irritation that you don’t get to do it “your way” any more. Even if you routinely need to access the files themselves for some reason, Plex’s way is at least logical and it’s still easy to find things. It’s just different than what most of us started with.
