SRT subtitles not being picked op anymore

We know the agent stacking wasn’t the best and that’s been corrected.

I would very much like to see PMS restarting (DEBUG = ON, Verbose = OFF ) logs ZIP.

I’d like to confirm that it’s properly adding all the media directories as it should be without error.

After waiting about 2 minutes,

I’d like you to drop a fake, but properly named, SRT file into a library section.

Within 2 minutes, PMS should find and add it.

This is when I’d like you to download the logs ZIP file.
Attach that ZIP file here please.

I’ll trace the sequence from startup through media file drop.

~$ date && sudo systemctl restart plexmediaserver.service

…2 minutes later…
I then added a french language srt, the english one has been there for a few months but isn’t detected by PMS…

no subtitles

Ok. let’s roll up the sleeves. I think there is corruption somewhere but don’t know where. You’re the only case I’ve ever seen like this.

By recreating a ‘test’ server, and keeping your existing server safe, we can experiment without fear.

I would like you to perform the following steps:

1. Sign out of the Plex/web browser (upper right corner)
2. Stop Plex
3. cd /var/lib/plexmediaserver
4. sudo mv Library Library.save
5. Start PMS
6. Sign into PMS (http://127.0.0.1:32400/web -- or via LAN IP )
7. Create a new server
8. Give it a "TEST SERVER" friendly name. This avoids conflicts.
9. Add one media library section. (This troublesome TV library section)
10. Let it scan and add all the media.
11. When done, see what it has found.
12. -- I expect it will find the subtitles you currently have placed
13. -- Now please add another subtitle file somewhere and test it being added.
14. When scanning complete, Download the logs ZIP file and attach here.

step 0… take snapshot.

be back soon…

That works too.

Renaming Library to Library.keep moves your data off to the side where PMS won’t see it.

It will create a new Library directory and do everything in that new directory.

ZFs nearly sent me a cease & desist…
But activity on PMS has finally stopped…
Not all metadata was populated for some reason… and our test-series has no subtitles nor any fanart, and a few other series suffered the same fate.
Plex Media Server Logs_2021-01-18_23-00-42.zip (8.9 MB)

After pulling the logs, tried a Refresh, and analyze on the series…no show.

This is on ZFS ?

the storage is ZFS, the folders are cifs shares mounted into the Plex LXC.

so, on a hunch inspired by missing fanart in the tv show as scanned in Test Library…
Acting on the real library/db, not on Test,
I did a Fix Match, using the tvdb series id (268592) for this series,
then did a partial Dance :

  • remove files from folder,
  • refresh meta for the entire show,
  • copy files back in, refresh entire show)

PMS has found the previously missing SRT subtitle files.

Go figure.

You did not by chance try the preview server version, which is offered in here? New Plex Media Server TV show/series scanner and agent preview

not unless it was put into the standard repository and apt pulled it.
