Plex not showing external srt subtitle files for new additions for a few days now

So I have subtitles to always show, all of my media display external english srt subs all fine except for new added movies (I’m on the beta channel) for the last couple of days… Even though the SRT file is absolutely there. This is only affecting Movies not Series.

What exactly can I do here? I’m using the new plex agent, nothing has changed in terms of options from my end… I even checked “Prefer Local Metadata” to see if it made a difference. (Use Local Assets has always been checked).

I’m going a bit mad trying to understand how to get it back working… This hasn’t affected my previous collection, just newly added ones…

I created a test library with a couple of films using TMDB agent (with local assets checked) and it worked perfectly… I’d rather use the new one purely to keep up with the roadmap and what’s to be the standard… Can anyone acknowledge if this also happens to them or any plex staff?

I’ve added a log example of doing a “Refresh Metadata” on a film that’s not picking up the SRT file, only displaying the embedded PGS.

Thanks, I can see the problem - it’s the one that should have been fixed in this version and I’m not sure why it’s still happening. It happens when a file in a partial state (e.g. busy getting copied from somewhere) gets scanned into a library.

Running an “Analyze” on the item should fix this problem though, could you try that and if it’s still not working send me the logs again after that.

Im experiencing the exact same problem running Version 1.20.2.3402 in my Synology.

The .srt is not detected what so ever, even if you press analyze, refresh metadata or scan library files.

The only way to detect the .srt is :

  • Move the Movie Folder out of the library ( actual path ).
  • Wait for Plex to delete the movie form the library.
  • Move the Movie Folder back to the library ( actual path ).

There is also something else that is fishy, while searching for a solution i noticed that the “Plex Movie” agent is missing when accessing Plex through web “Version 4.44.1” but it is there when accessing it through the local “Version 4.34.4”.

I also tried Beta Server Version 1.20.3.3421 to no avail, problem is still here.

Can confirm, I had the same issue, switched to TMDB agent and the subtitles are now added almost instant after being downloaded by Bazarr.

Edit: When using Plex Movie Legacy the subtitles are also updated instantly. I switch to Plex Movie Legacy due to TMDB having a lot of unknown movies.

Same here. Noticed the Plex Movie agent as well when using the local ip instead.

I’m still having the same issue, tv series are fine though, only movies due to the new agent… And it’s still being ignored.

Also, new added movies aren’t generating thumbnails automatically even though I have it setup in Library option for as soon as new movies are added. If I press Analyze on a movie that’s been added 3 hours ago it starts generating thumbnails, so clearly something’s wrong here… The legacy acted perfectly…

Yes, I am aware of that. The new Plex Movie agent is supposed to just be edited in the Advanced Settings for Library. Even with the local metadata/assets checked it doesn’t work as you’re most likely also experiencing.

As I said above, even the tasks that I have set as scheduled and as “soon as media is available” such as thumbnail previews, chapter image generation etc, doesn’t seem to work when more than 2 movies are added in a span of a few hours. Only when you press Analyze does it start to perform such task, thus signalling something is broken here along with importing local assets (.srt’s)

If the new “Plex Movie” agent is supposed to be edited only through library - advanced tab then we have faulty design here.

Leaving all the other agents as normal in the settings menu bring confusion to the user. But this seems to be a frontend problem as we noticed in the web version vs local version and not a server one.

Lets hope for a resolution here.

*I rolled back to “PlexMediaServer-1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9-x86_64” and the problem with the subtitles detection seems to not be there.

Just noticed your post about 1.20.3.3430 beta, does this version handles the situation that we discussing here cause im a bit confused about the:

  • (Library) Custom search parameters in Fix Match for Plex Movie and Music libraries were not being respected.

I’ve recorded a video showing part of the issue.

Plex isn’t automatically generating preview thumbnails even when the settings state to do so upon media addition. It’s not even doing it during scheduled tasks hours. I have to do it manually and ONLY after that’s done can I press Refresh Metadata and THEN the SRT file will be picked up… This happens to every single movie and needs to be done manually, series work fine and as intended though, so it’s definitely got something to do with the Movie Agent/Scanner.

I couldn’t record afterwards (my laptop is absolute trash) but after the analysis was done (thumbnail generation), pressing refresh metadata instantly picked up the SRT file.

I believe I’ve found the root cause of this issue and I’ve got a fix that should hopefully land in the next release (1.20.4).

For now the work-around if you experience this issue is to run an “Analyze” and then “Refresh Metadata” on the problem items.

I was wrong,

PlexMediaServer-1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9-x86_64 rollback didn’t fix the problem.

I see version 1.20.4.3508-6abbd541f has change:

(Analysis) Media analysis wouldn’t trigger correctly in Plex Movie libraries when modifications were detected (#12041)

I just changed the agent but haven’t try it out yet (nothing is pending addition).
Can anyone confirm it worked?

No. It doesn’t work. Just tested it by adding a new film. Screw this, going back to the TMDB agent.

Nevermind I think it’s working now. Required further testing.
