Hi there. First post so please be gentle with me - lol.
I’m having problems trying to name Star Trek Discovery Short treks so they appear correctly and all metadata is downloaded.
Presently, i have the folder tree as follows:-
TV
Star Trek Discovery
Season 0 (The Bonus Scene is in here and shows OK)
Season 1 (All OK)
Season 2 (All OK)
Short Treks>Season 1>Star Trek Discovery Short Treks - s01e01 to s01e04
Season 2>Star Trek Discovery Short Treks - s02e01 to s02e02
The Short Trek episodes don’t show any episode names at all and I have tried several different naming structures.
Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB.
If there is something in parentheses, take that too.
If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like § : % *, simply leave them out.
Check the naming and the folder structure of your show.
Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB.
No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases.
Add the (year) in parentheses of when episode 1 of season 1 of this show was aired.
Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide.
Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title (year) - s01e01 - additional info.ext (’- additional info’ can be left out)
After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.
I just moved all of the Short Treks into their own folder.
When I searched for “Star Trek Short Treks” Plex wound not find a match.
On TVDB there is a colon in the title.
So in Search Options I changed the name to “Star Trek: Short Treks”
Plex immediately found it and applied the correct metadata and art work.
The suggestions in this thread are helpful, but the situation is complicated by the fact that over time the naming of the show has changed in the eyes of TheTVDB.
It used to be that the show was a subset of Star Trek Discovery, and should have been in a folder called Season 00, inside Star Trek Discovery.
As of now, place your Short Trek files in a folder called Star Trek Short Treks, and then when it isn’t matched properly, search for Star Trek: Short Treks (the colon is needed). Also, if your files are named things like Star.Trek.Discovery.S00E02.Short.Treks.Runaway.1080p.MKV, change them to Star.Trek.Discovery.S01E01.Short.Treks.Runaway.1080p.MKV. The series was given new season and episode naming as per: https://thetvdb.com/series/star-trek-short-treks/allseasons/official
The correct file names would now be Star Trek Short Treks - s01e01 - Runaway[1080p].mkv
But the folder name is more important than the file names for a proper matching, so that may be the reason why it works for you. Still, your recommendation above is not correct anymore.
I am so convinced this ‘restructuring’ on TVDB’s part is unnecessary micromanagement - I changed the show agent to TMDB:
Problem solved.
I do wish TMDB and Plex could come to agreement about all those Actors TMDB only allows in Seasons - for some reason. I guess it would be nice if they all showed up under the season they’re in, but that sounds complicated, and as such, unlikely.
The Movie Database matches perfectly, TVDB appears to only have one special in my view of it. Movie database matched perfectly with one season of 4 and a second of 6 and all details correct for each episode!
The latest episode “Children of Mars” is a Crossover with Picard, so i’ve gone ahead and added them to their own folder “Star Trek Short Treks” and renamed them per thedb (Season 1 & Season 2) and its all been scraped properly
