Not sure why there is not other way to ask for support, it seems that nobody is checking this. In my case was working before my last update in player and server. I am using Nvidia Shield and Synology. I’ve tried to return to the previous version without success. Is there someone of Plex reading this topic? I’ve thought that Plex Pass will give a better support
That is the problem without real support from plex, we are blind. I didn’t do the update and I have the problem. But, I don’t know if it is the server or the player.
I would guess the server is the issue. Someone said it happens on Apple TV and last night I tried it on an Android tablet, Android TV, Roku, and the web client, and all had the same issue. And roughly 30-40 minutes into a recording, they all started at the exact same spot at about 21 minutes in, so it’s not random.
Yeah, this is happening to me as well after the last update. I’m using pms on a 2017 iMac and trying to watch a recorded show in progress (and failing) on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and the app directly through the Samsung TV. No luck…
Is anyone aware of plex support’s awareness of this issue? Is it being worked on?
I have this issue as well… with nVidia shield, Windows, and LG clients. About 50% of the time I can’t watch a current recording from the beginning. This is a SIGNIFICANT bug. Makes the DVR substantially less useful. It seems crazy Plex advertises the plex pass and takes people’s money but has such problems with BASIC functionality.
I’ve been having this same problem on and off since the beginning of Plex tv. Last night I started a show halfway through its recording from the beginning and it worked… I stopped and went back to the menu to browse something then Returned to said show to start from beginning again and it would t work… took me to another spot in the show and I couldn’t go back any further. I’m always updating server to current release.
Can us paying Plex users who have been loyal for so long get some answers?
Plex server on windows 10: Version 1.15.5.994
Roku client 6.3.5.5679-66bbf7308-Plex
I reproduced the problem and enabled remote logging on my Roku. My user name is — (I’m uncomfortable giving my user name here) If you need it please let me know & give me a secure way to send it)
The problem was reproduced at around 8:47am Mountain daylight time.
I’ve attached the server logs.Plex Media Server Logs_2019-05-08_08-44-28.zip (2.4 MB)
I tried to view the CBS This Morning show (which was being recorded) from the beginning. I was given the option to do so. When I tried, it started from the present time. Rewind or forward brought the show back to the place where it started.
I’m seeing the same problem on Samsung Plex app.
Come on Plex! We paid for this service. Please fix it already.
Hi everyone, sorry there haven’t been any updates in a while. We are actively looking at this issue. I don’t have any information to share but we do want to get this issue resolved as soon as we can.
Please!!
Please please please get this fixed soon. It makes the DVR mostly useless 50% of the time.
Yes, being able to watch a program from the beginning while it is still being recorded is a key feature. It would be great also if PMS could remember where I stop watching so that I can resume watching from that point when I come back to the program (while still recording).
This is a very frustrating issue. If my logs would be useful, please let me know and I will post them.

This issue is killing me at home, the wife has started to ask for another solution if plex cant sort this out. it shouldn’t be that hard i can see the recording under the .grab directory and can play it with kodi, why the plex frontend cant play this file is beyond me
Plex server version is 1.15.6.1079,
its a docker, image: plexinc/pms-docker:plexpass
Ubuntu Server 18.04.2
the permissions on the .grab folder is correct user:docker
its failing on the following frontends web, android tv, android, ipad
when your looking at the log i tried to replay a live recording at around 8:34 21/05
Programs being recorded have numerous issues with time shifting. They also do not always allow you to “Begin from the Start”.
Typically the ability to “time shift” in a program actively being recording will cease to function once the recording is completed if the subsequent program for that station is also set to record. I attribute this to the recorded file being moved from grab to the repository but that’s a guess. This destroys a key use case for a DVR which is to begin watching a program 10 or so minutes after it starts so you can skip commercials and complete as the program ends. IMO they need to introduce the concept of a LiveTV buffer of settable length (say up to 4 hours) that you watch from and recorded shows are extracted from that buffer by copying data to the repository. It would be good to have multiple of these LiveTV buffers so that you could keep multiple TV channel streams in progress to bounce around within. That is similar to what other platforms do.
This is set of bugs is trivial to reproduce and given the length of time over which people have been reporting this bug class PLEX should be setting up a test environment to fix things.
I can’t believe after all this time that basic time shifting is still not rock solid on this platform. OK, I take that back. I unfortunately believe it with PLEX.
What frustrates me is that this worked! They broke it. I’m beginning to feel the pressure to move away from this solution too. The “lifetime” fee be damned.
The latest Beta didn’t fix the issue.
It has almost been a year now since this issue became active, and now we’re starting to see and hear about users dumping Plex because they can’t time-shift games, news, etc… Bummer for Plex… What are the alternatives?
I’ve been investigating emby
i wonder if i can get a refund on my plex lifetime pass?
I had high hopes for last server update but still the same problem. This is frustrating so many users and you can only imagine how many more that are not on this forum. Can someone from the Plex team shed some light on the situation? Give us some illusion that this bug is a high priority? Like a user noted before, this functionality for a DVR is paramount!
Seriously PLEX this is bloody killing me.
Every single time I try to convince my wife that PLEX is our DVR solution we get nothing but failures.
It feels like you guys spend too much time implementing bloody podcasts, news and all sorts of other useless feature nobody wants.
Please stop all other projects and focus on getting the basic DVR functions working properly.
I’m watching “Channels DVR” with great interest and if you guys can’t get your s#!t together by the time they launch in Australia you can say goodbye to my PLEX Pass contribution.
While beerjohnson may have been a bit harsh, I certainly understand his frustration. The DVR functionality is the main reason I purchased my lifetime PLEX pass. I’m not sure if the PLEX team understands what it is like to deal with our spouses day in and day out with this problem. It is insane that it is taking so long to fix this basic functionality. Please fix “Watch from beginning” function as this is my third request. And I also agree, podcasts, music, news??? Really?? WHO CARES? Please fix the DVR functionality!!
