Are there statistics and reports within Plex that I can use to talk to my family about how many movies we have watched, how many minutes, etc? A couple have asked and I can find any reports to export.
Those would be some scary numbers in my household! 
There is presently no built-in dashboard of sorts that provides this data. There are, however, 3rd party tools such as PlexPy that provide the type of insights into activity you are looking for.

Is it really nessacary to install Python and GIT and so on for this to work?
Only Python. GIT is optional.
