Step by step restore of Plex database

Hi, I’ve seen a steps guide on restoring the plex database but it’s not that clear.

Plex has re-added the whole of my movie collection, removing all my edits of posters and ratings certificates. I’m on Windows 10 and have Plex set to backup the database every 3 days.

I’m a little intimidated by these steps (https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/202485658-Restore-a-Database-Backed-Up-via-Scheduled-Tasks-) , and was hoping for something a little clearer, anyone able to help me?

Hi thanks for the effort and detail but it’s that last paragraph I needed more on. I have plex set to backup every 3 days and need explicit instructions on what to copy where. So I need the instructions on how to restore.

Don’t worry about saving changes I’ve done that and 99% of my movies are named fine.

0 - Shut down PMS
1 - Find the current database in C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Plug-in Support\Databases\com.plexapp.plugins.library.db
2 - Make a backup of that, just in case. You can also jhust rename it.
3 - Find the backup database
4 - Copy the backup to the location in step 1
5 - Rename the backup database to “com.plexapp.plugins.library.db” and overwrite the old one (why you made a backup).
6 - Restart PMS
7 - … That’s it.

Great, that’s what I needed, all sorted thanks.

The database dump and restore method didn’t work for me, but this did, twice already. If the library doesn’t get rebuilt upon restarting PMS, run a manual Update Library. I just did it from the Web Interface and it worked for me.

Thanks a lot!
