Still no way to get DTS audio or an automatically donwgrading to DD+ to work using Fire TV (cube)?

Server Version#: 1.21.3.4046
Player Version#: 8.12.4.22902

Hi,

I am running a Plex server on a Synology DS920+ and use a Fire TV Cube with Plex client as streaming device which is directly connected over HDMI to a Philips 70PUS8505 TV, the sound output is done by a Samsung HW-Q950t connected via HDMI (arc).

Playing movies with Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital + using the Plex client at the Fire TV Cube works fine, playing movies with Dolby Atmos using the netflix, disney+ or prime video App on the Fire TV Cube also works fine.
However when it comes to playing movies with DTS or DTS-HD audio using the Plex client on the Fire TV Cube the rear speakers are dead silent, even with using direct play.
I dont want to use Kodi and I dont want to transcode most of my movies using handbrake or similar tools, so what are my options?

  1. is it still up to date, that there is no way to get DTS audio to work on an fire tv cube beside using Kodi (which may work, but has it own issues depending on the fire tv software version) ?

  2. is there a way to configure the plex server or the plex app in a way that it automatically downgrades the DTS or DTS-HD audio to Dolby Digital+ (AC-3) using on the fly transcoding? I would be fine with that, I dont need the best audio quality, I just dont want to lose the rear channels completely (which is the case right now and i dont want to have to configure the transcoding for every movie individually).

  3. if the answer to my first question is yes and there is also no way for an automatically transcoing to Dolby Digital+ (question 2) can I solve the problems by replacing the Fire TV Cube with an Nvidia Shield Pro (2019 version)?

Regards and thanks in advance

For other people who are facing the same problem: replacing the fire TV cube with an nvidia shield TV pro works: after the replacement the soundbar happily plays DTS sound (I assume the non pro version of the shield TV would do the job too).

However, because of the price of shield TV pro i still want ot know if there is another way to get surround sound out of files with DTS using plex? Anyone could answer the first or second question of my initial posting?

regards
