Does episode 36 Amanda Tapping work, without having metadata pulled from TVdb?
Yes it does.
(I actually named those Specials outside the listing by hand - they’re working fine, but Old Sparky bit me too before the fix came to Windows - I’m old - I won’t miss that leg - much)
Well now I have a lot work to do. I appreciate you both and your sardonic yet incredibly helpful advice.
Surprise, Surprise…
Sgt Carter
I never had a problem forever… does this sh&t just happen???
Poor file names and structures may work
May work for a while
Right up until they don’t work
Great File Names and Structures work today, tomorrow and the next day…
Until Old Sparky Shows up, but one thing is certain - if your file names and structures are great - it ain’t that.
FileBot could fix the entire show, just like it’s named now - faster than I can apply a soothing poultice to my leg stump.
I can’t live without FileBot.
BTW:
I disagree with your Sardonic appraisal of my responses.
Stupid maybe - but not Sardonic in any way…
When you suggest someone rename their files - for the millionth time - Stupid does sneak out of me occasionally…lol
If you are having issues with playback provide logs after a playback attempt so we can see why it is not playing something back or playing the wrong episode. Preferably from the player and the server. Providing the xml info would help as well.

In the haze of last night’s back and forth (including some whiskey on my end), I just wanted to reach back out and say I owe you both a debt of gratitude and my sincerest apologies. I never thought for one moment that it could be my naming structure. They’ve always worked, I never had a problem, until, like you said, I did. Thank you for your patience and your humor. You guys rock.
Your most welcome and I’m glad you enjoyed the banter
I quit drinking years ago, but I didn’t quit having fun.
Glad you’re back…

Until the next time Old Sparky shows up, I bid you farewell. And, hey, this final gives me a reason to upgrade my entire TV collection to the new matching agent.
Depending on size - a few hours should do it.
My 15,000+ episodes took - a few hours.
I was asleep at the time - and since that’s about as long as I sleep and it was done when I got up - I’m guessing a few hours.
(don’t forget - switching to the new agent ain’t over until the fat lady refreshes the metadata for the entire library)
Question for ya… I noticed the new agent pulls episode data from themoviedb by default, instead of thetvdb. I see that you can change it, but do you have a personal preference?
Well, I have an update.
I’ve been fixing filenames as we’ve discussed and the same issue cropped up… some extras without metadata wouldn’t play. And I discovered an easy fix.
It appears that when you have an episode that doesn’t pull any metadata, Plex will give you an airdate of 1900-01-01. However, that doesn’t appear when you are browsing the episodes themselves. If you simply go in and give it a more realistic date, it does appear and it will play as normal.
So in this screenshot, only Chambraigne will play. None of the others:
At least it’s a quicker fix than updating all of my filenames… though yes I know Old Sparky will come for me eventually…
