I didn’t pay for the mobile app just to be advertised that I can pay for a SONOS upgrade every time I try to broadcast to my Chromecast. There is no SONOS device on my network, there never will be, and it’s rather blatant of you to be advertising this every single time I try to cast now. I didn’t pay to be advertised for new features that I will never use.
Stop.
Can you provide a screenshot? I’m not aware of any Sonos ads.
Every single time I click the cast button now…

Thanks. I’ll look into that.
Ok, devs found the issue. This was unintentional. Will be fixed in a future update.

I’m curious, is there any clue when this will be fixed?
That should have already been fixed. You should not see Sonos as a device unless you actually have one. If you do have one, and don’t want to see that message, there isn’t a way to turn that off.
I do not have any Sonos devices on my network, nor do the various other places that I use Plex with Chromecast.
Oh sorry. The fix was in the beta app. The public fix should be in 7.19.0 which was just released. You’ll need to wait for it to make it around to your Play Store.
I’m still seeing the Sonos device as a casting option (nearly identical to the previous poster’s screenshot, except with a “Link your account to use” subtext - I have Plex Pass already). I’m using the 7.20.0 release from the Play Store on a Pixel 3. I don’t own a Sonos device, and there are no Sonos devices on my network.
Can you provide me the log from the app after trying to cast so I can see why it thinks you have a Sonos?
Here’s the log from when this was occurring this morning. I think I’ve captured the information you’re looking for, please let me know otherwise.
As an additional note, when checking the app now, I do not currently see a Sonos device listed. I also had not noticed it before this morning, and I cast plex on my home network daily. It drew my attention because it seemed to indicate that someone else had managed to get onto my network, until I found this post and double-checked my router.
I’m currently seeing this message in the logs, when I attempt to cast from the same device:
[Sonos] Non ready player tv.plex.sonos cannot be added as no nearby speakers have been found

Hmm. There may be something. I’ll have to discuss with the devs. It looks like maybe a race condition.
The Sonos device showed up again this morning. The attached log goes back to just before midnight last night, I noticed the Sonos device at ~11:20am today (EDT). It seems to be hit-or-miss, which probably backs the race-condition theory.
I’ll also add that both times that the Sonos device has shown up so far have been when I start casting at about 11:20am, immediately after getting home from work for my lunch break. I had been connected to my home network for at least half an hour when I reported in with no Sonos device last evening.
It also seems that that refreshing the cast list has no effect on whether or not the Sonos device displays. If it’s present it stays present, and if it’s not present it remains so.

I have been doing Plex updates regularly lately, after having posted this.
I have not seen a Sonos listing in about a week, when trying to cast from my phone. I also noticed that it disappeared from YouTube app a few days before that. So at the moment, it appears to be resolved for me if it’s sticks…

For the sake of argument, I did happen to change phones in the last week or so. A different Samsung phone now.
I’m not seeing it either - and my eyes are trained in that direction…
all clear, so far.
I’m beginning to wonder if this is broader than just the Sonos device listing. When I cast at lunch time, I see several more devices than when I’ve been checking it in the evenings. In particular, at lunch today I was able to see 5 additional “speaker” devices (Chromecast Audio, and 4 Google Home listings, 2 of which are virtual “cast groups”), in addition to the Sonos speaker. In the evenings, when the Sonos device is not listed, none of the other castable speakers are appearing either.

Both of these screenshots were taken on the same network, and I’ve not added or removed any media devices in between, I haven’t even been home to do so. I’ve confirmed that my router is reporting the same list of network clients at the times of each of these screenshots.

I had just posted that I had not seen it in a while, but I just rebooted my phone, and immediately saw it inside Plex when I was trying to cast RoboCop to my TV. Literally the same screenshot as I began this thread with, my Chromecast, and a Sonos device that does not exist, which until I rebooted my phone, had stopped appearing for about a week.
The Sonos suggestion has come back after I upgraded my Plex app on my Android device yesterday. Yay.
