Server Version#: 1.18.3.2129
Player Version#: webOS (LG OLED55B6V-Z)
Hello,
I have the TV model above and Im experiencing a very strange issue. I’m trying to continue the playback of a film that is in HEVC 10 bit format. When I started watching the film some days ago, it worked perfectly fine. Now that I want to continue to watch it, it buffers for a couple of seconds and then it plays for like 1 second then it freezes for another second and then continues. There is no way to make it work correctly except starting the film from the beggining! This solves the issue and continues the playback. The release is Face Off 1997 BluRay 10Bit 1080p DD5 1 H265-d3g.
I’m running my server on Debian 9 which is fully upgraded and Im using a 980 Ti for transcoding. The CPU is Core i7 6700K with 16GB RAM. This happens on LAN. Using the official Plex app from the LG Content Store.
Its worth noting that using the app on windows, android or even using the Chrome browser works fine without this strange issue. I’ve attached the log.
I have read about this issue in the forums, not sure if anyone has found a fix. Try searching LG WebOS buffering. Most say it’s about pausing or << or >>, I have a 2018 OLED B8 and have not seen this issue. I use the timeline above the virtual controls.
Your issue is for a local server as you mention LAN. Does this issue occur with other codecs as you mention HEVC/ H.265. I don’t have many HEVC.
Well I ended up creating an optimised TV version and its working perfectly fine since its mp4.
Mine is 2016 OLED. I believe this does occur only on 10bit HEVCs. There is another movie in my collection that had the same behaviour but somehow I managed to fix it without creating an optimised version however I don’t remember how since it was some months ago.
Ive tried lowering and increasing the quality and the funny thing is that it works for about 1 minute (as the transcoders default buffer size) and then it shows exactly the same bug. Even using software encoder results in the same thing. I believe this is a bug in the server software end/or the plex app on the TV?
I don’t use Plex’s Optimizer but recommend handbrake and the use H.264 mkv. Audio can be another mine field, unless you have the required hardware stick to 5.1 channel audio.
I have the exact same issue with my LG 49SJ81V. I haven’t tried a HEVC stream, but all the H264 an MP4 streams started earlier won’t resume properly.
When I want to resume a stream on another device (Android/IOS/PS4 or web platform) the playback is flawless. As soon as I want to resume (after testing on other platform) the playback stutters like a i’m not using that word
Server specs:
Gen6 i5 (6500 @ 4x 3.20GHz)
16GB RAM @ 2133MHz
Windows Server 2K16
Allready tried rebooting the server several times without any results and I’m 100% sure I’m the only stream at the time of the problems.
Also sometimes I won’t get any sound through the Plex TV app, but that’s a completely different topic.
