I’m not sure when this started, but I believe it to be recent I have two remote users who are reporting that they’re able to browse and select media to play, but after a short wait receive a “Playback error: An unexpected playback problem occurred”. I’ve played around with them on this and what we’ve determined is that anything that needs transcoding is failing, but media that will direct play works file.
That said, I am able to stream via the iOS app while on a cellular connection and forcing 0.7 Mbps. I’m able to see that I’m transcoding via Tautulli, but no issues whatsoever.
Anybody have any thoughts? I think my user might have tried this multiple times, but I captured the following from the logs for one of the sessions that failed: PlexTranscodeRemote - Pastebin.com
Edit: I bit the bullet and upgraded to DSM 7. No change in behavior. Have also updated with the client version.
Edit 2: I have confirmed that I can transcode the same file to a Windows laptop, iOS, Fire TV, Roku standalone and a Roku powered smart TV.

I got home today and noticed a lot of my videos were not playing, mainly videos that have ASS subtitles and TRUEHD audio. The only change is that the client updated to 8.24.0 in the background.
Narrowed it down to a these options to get it to work:
Disable Audio Passthrough
Change subtitle burn-in to image formats only
The same videos were working prior to this update.
Hi, I have the same problem since update with .ass anime subs. The PMS update broke the possibility to play them.
Before the update I was about to play anime smoothly with ass subtitles perfectly, and now I can’t. I have to burn them into image If I want them to work. But the subtitles are broken doing this (no more translated signs, frames, adverts…)
Both of my users now have player version 5.25.3, but only one of them can view transcoded media. I’m now fairly certain this is a Samsung thing and not a Syno thing, but does anybody have any ideas?
