Hi.
I had found your various earlier posts before posting and found the info regarding agent order useful as never really understood it fully before. I had already set everything in Albums - Plex Premium Music & Albums - last.fm with ‘Local Media Assets’ in the top position
The tags are v2.3 and audio formats are mp3 and flac
I think I may have found my problem but rather hope there is a solution I also go into some more detail in the hope this may be useful for other users having problems with certain multi CD compilation albums: I also realise now I should have stated in original posting that all the tracks files for each Album of Now Music were in a single folder rather than in CD1 & CD2 subfolders.
I hadn’t mentioned that before as I wasn’t aware this was a possible limitaion. I have a fairly large collection of classical music including many releases which are compilations featuring multiple composers over multiple discs. So I might have 50 or more flac files in a single folder which spans a 5 disc set and Plex is handling those fine
I went looking for patterns in my existing library where the scanner was working and where it wasn’t:
I have some Official Soundtrack albums which I noticed were giving Artist names for tracks in both CD1 and CD2, what I must have forgotten was I merged the two discs from within Plex but keeping the source folder structure as
Music/Film Sound tracks/Forrect Gump - Official Soundtrack
- CD1/01 - Elvis Presley - Hound Dog
/02 - next track…
- CD2/01 - Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers
/02 - Next track…
As a test I grabbed a copy of all flac files from the above album in both CD1 & CD2 and dropped them into mp3Tag and added the Disc numbers as ‘1/2’ and ‘2/2’. I put all the newly tagged files into 1 folder and dropped these back into the Music/Various Artists/Forest Gump - Offical Soundtrack and rescanned.
The results were the same as the issue I was having with the Now Music discs , Disc 01 was perfect but Disc 02 was missing the artist name for each track.
As A Further test I went back to one of the problem Now Music cds took it outside Plex’s view and split the files into CD 1 & CD2 sub folders . Did Plex Dance and rescanned. Whilst I now had 2 ‘Now Thats what I call music 3’ covers in the library view the artist names for the tracks were present in both.
I did the same test again but instead of tagging the disc number format 1/2 and 2/2 I just used ‘1’ & ‘2’
This time when I dropped the folder back into Plex I just got the single cover in Library view and artist names remained for both Disc 1 & Disc 2 (should stress having now done a few more albums in the same way results vary and sometimes I get one cover sometimes two covers and have to go through the tedious job of merging)
None of the above explains why my classical compilations seem happy to have a all files in just the one folder nor why I am getting inconsistent number of covers
I thought having the Local Assetts as the top level agent would overcome the need to have CD1, CD2 sub folders but for me at least that doesn’t appear to be the case for all albums.
If that is confirmed then I guess I need to look deeper into Musicbrainz Picard to see if it supports output to CD1 ,CD 2 sub folders, still dont know how i am to overcome this dual album covers issue though?
