i am getting a strange subtitle popup when playing a movie other then the default original. if i change to 5.1 sound, or change quality i start getting these letters and slashes on the screen. i have noticed this with multiple players. i also have a screen shot of it from my pc.
any ideas what might be causing this? it doesnt happen when playing the movie directly from the folder with media player.
im a noob, i dont know how to do that stuff. let me figure that part out. and get back to you.
but i saw it when using the playstation app to watch a movie, and changed the audio from stereo to 5.1 and also on vizio’s tv app. same situation. so i tested it out on google chrome. using the internet player. changed the audio and it does the same thing. which is how i got the screenshot of it.
it happends in movies that dont even have subtitles. for instance, it was popping up alot on allegiance.
i will try and figure out how to get the xml for you and post it.
I see your file contains some EIA/TIA 608 subtitles. Those are commonly used in digital TV streams. For some reasons, the transcoder selects and shows them.
Can you pick the smallest of your files which exhibits the issue and send me a private download link?
I’d like to relay it to the developers.
i dont know how to do that to be honest. although i did notice something. when i change the audio track from stereo 2 speakers, to 5.1 dolby, and hit ok. it for some reason auto selects subtitles. so i guess it was selecting subtitles and i didnt know. and when i go back and change it to no subtitles, that goes away. however i have not tested to see if i still have subtitles for non english speaking parts, or if i need to turn subtitles back on. so i need to test that out. at the moment it seems i have it fixed so its not showing those weird titles. however, it is frustrating that i have to always switch a movie from stereo to 5.1
which i have seen is a known issue.
so let me test the non english subtitle thing and i will get back to you. if that isnt working, and i have to set it back to subtitles and it shows both regular and funky subtitles, then i will see if i can figure out a section of movie that i can stream to you or give you to download.
im still having this issue. its strange. but if i select 5.1 dolby audio. it shows strange subtitles. some strange characters. but i check subtitles, and they are not on. but if i close the movie, go back in again and check subtitles, they are on. if i change the selection to none, and back, it usually tends to fix it. and show subtitles correctly. sometimes it does not. its very frustrating on movies that have subtitles.
this happens so far on ps4 and my computer windows-10 plex app. also from my visio tv app, but i rarely ever use that anymore.
i have checked automatically select audio and subtitle tracks.
prefer audio tracks in english
subtitle mode show with foreign audio
preferred subtitles in english
i dont know how to give you a movie file or partial.
