I love Plex. I am lucky and have a cinema setup so I use it gor my big film collection 4 or 5 times a week. And whilst I applaud the innovations from Plex I use none of them. I realise that in 2018 you stopped your cloud service but the problem is that it was never replaced by better or easier. I have tried different things but it doesn’t work. All that works is a NAS setup which I switch off when i go away and therefore defeats the object. Can you please please please come up with some system where cloud streaming is at the heart of what you do. It needs to be simple, not everyone is that clever or wants to be. All I want to do is upload, link to Plex and there I go…
„Cloud“ is nowadays a rather generic term… what exactly are you looking for?
There’s a number of experience reports where users describe how they moved a local server to a service provider to host / manage a server on which they run their PMS. I guess the only downside is that the more powerful a server you need, the more expensive such a hosting solution will be…
I don’t mean that really. I would like a simple solution of uploading and play. In view of all the 'improvements ’ Plex makes, this is what i would like most
Upload where and play from where?
If this is about “taking media along” – you can download movies, shows, music etc. to the mobile apps and the regular desktop app (Plex for Mac/Windows/Linux).
I did say I was very uneducated in those matters. However. I understand that a collection could be uploaded onto a cloud service and wherever you may be plex can play whatever choice.
Downloading to a device is not what I want though it is what I do. I cant download hundreds though I like to have the choice as I have no idea what I might fancy next week at this time.
In short I would like to go from nas to a virtual setup which I think Plex tried buy discontinued in 2018.
Hope that’s clearer now and yes i know there are ways but i would love a simple solution. I dont understand jargon nor do i want to. Just upload here, link your plex library, play.
It’s technically possible to upload files to a cloud and mount/link that cloud to your server’s file system. This will still require your server to be up and running to access the cloudified media through Plex.
Having such a setup isn’t trivial and there’s a number of pitfalls, e.g. when it comes to Plex analyzing or processing your media as part of scheduled jobs and server maintenance. Depending on your cloud storage provider a bad configuration can result the cloud provider to ban your account for excessive data transfer / upload / download…
There’s an existing feature suggestion discussing options to better integrate cloud based media directly into Plex and for Plex to optimize the server’s behavior in regards to those pitfalls. This suggestion is actually dating back to the time when Plex offered their own cloud-based servers.

@laurent_saletto1 : does the existing suggestion linked above cover what you’re asking for? If so I suggest we close this thread and you comment/vote in that thread instead in order to avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes.
Yes close it. I never have been able to get a simple reply so there’s no pount. Maybe one day Plex will reinstate their original cloud idea and until then i will just be quiet
