I have a Synology 918+ which is great and have used for multiple 1080p steams no problem before. I am trying to run a 4k movie and am getting stuttering. This would be local via wifi so unsure where bottle neck is. It is a 14.5gb file. When i tried to check the speed, I ran a download to my phone while downscaling the stream to 1080P. I was able to download at ~150mbps. So do not believe the network would be the issue. I checked the stream and it was playing original, so i do not believe any transcoding happening.
This is from between my 918+ which is hardwired into wireless modem, then casting maybe 30 feet onto my shield.
