From what I have read, it appears that streaming HD audio is only possible with plex home theater on a device connected through HDMI to a compatible receiver that has DTS-HD/Dolby True HD/LPCM.
Is there development to allow streaming of HD audio to the xbox one or other compatible device that supports hd audio?
My setup is a mac mini 2012 running windows 8.1 Ethernet connected to my network (with plex server) and running the plex app on the xbox one also Ethernet connected to my network. I am using the uncompressed 7.1 on the xbox one for audio out to my denon 1913 receiver to 7.1 speaker setup.
This is the the only thing keeping me from getting a lifetime plex subscription. This will help a lot with the family so they only need to say xbox on and can watch TV, play games, watch Netflix, watch ripped movies from plex etc... all in one place without changing inputs on the receiver.
Is this:
a) In development/future development
b) already works but I don't have it setup correctly
If I understand what you mean, then this is not really possible right now. I wish Microsoft would enable audio pass-through to a receiver, as this would stop them needing to decode any audio, and enable all sound tracks easily! However as they are extremely proactive, dts support should come rapidly, and as they want to beat the PS4 as an all in one media device, i'm sure this will ramp up now that also has Plex (although its limited to 8mbps streams!).
I've been on the fence about getting an One for months now, and I'm just waiting for it to push me over the edge with the ability to direct play/stream my blu ray rips without any loss of quality, while still making use of my AV receivers ability to upmix stereo/5.1 to 7.1. I feel like it's close to being there, but not quite. I suspect the delay is on Microsoft's end for all the remaining issues.
