Streaming HD LiveTV to roku 3 not possible

Plex server installed on Qnap ts451+ with livetv supplied by hdhomerun connect. Until now I have been watching and recording livetv using the SD version of tv channels, but one broadcaster has now switched to all HD and my roku3/Qnap/plex combination is unable to stream this.

I accept that this is a limitation of my current setup, but what I cannot understand is that the same HD channels stream successfully using either the HDHR Viewer plex plugin/channel or Emby. What settings (if any) should I possibly change that will improve the plex streaming? Or do I just make the switch to Emby? (I only paid for 1 mth as a test for now.)
