I do have them running side by side, on multiple systems. I think it depends on how Linux savvy you are tbh. I’ve been using it for over 20 years and take a lot of the configuration for granted.
So at the risk of going off on a tangent: If you want something that just works on your Pi, I’d recommend Ropieee - it has Roon, upmpdcli, and Plexamp - all setup to run as an appliance (set and forget). If you want to go DIY then I’d suggest starting with a good foundation like Armbian/Ubuntu server. The upmpdcli developers maintain their own Ubuntu PPA which makes installation & updates a breeze. Then there’s moOde which is a good middle-ground imo - comes with everything you need pre-installed but lets you tinker too. With anything beyond Ropieee, I’d recommend looking at the ArchWiki for configuration help, their pages on MPD and ALSA will be particularly helpful when setting up your sound device.
Obviously, I’d also recommend PIMP.
