Streaming TV versus Movies on Web App

Server Version#: 1.19.5.3112
Player Version#: 4.34.3

Streaming movies to my Mac laptop from Synology server works fine, but a couple TV series will not play on the same computer. Tried a couple different series, just to see if something in naming conventions was off or file types were the difference makers. 2 series didn’t work, they’re MKV files, but 1 did.

Same dilemma with Android phone.

But here’s the rub: same server plays both movies and all TV series via PS4 app. Am I missing some kind of update? Is there a sync issue? Thanks all.

Thanks for the reply! Your post started with a mention of the phone, but I couldn’t find the options you mentioned on the phone’s app, so I’ve attached both from the MacBook Air, running the Web Player. The XML text is attached as a txt file.

So I changed all the settings you mentioned, closed the tab of Plex, then re-launched from DSM. Didn’t work.

So I went back into DSM, stopped Plex from running, re-started, re-launched, tested the same episode, and it worked on both the computer and the phone.

If you have a few minutes, a couple not-totally random questions, as this was my first experience on the forums and I’m so totally thankful for your help, but still pretty inexperienced.

First of all: what’s the benefit of re-encoding files to MP4 H.264/AAC? And secondly, is that the file type I should be defaulting to in the future?

Third: in trying to find out what “EAE is falling over” means, I stumbled across this thread, where you’d helped someone else with a similar issue. Leaving it here just as a possible alternate route for others to follow if they have an issue like mine or this other one. LInk: Plex server continuously throwing error "EAE timeout!"

Thanks again!
