Stretch Video Option

The option to change/stretch videos to fit to screen would be a good feature. Old animated shows are better stretched

I strongly disagree.

I rather have it like this:

than this abomination:

and this ain’t acceptable either (zoomed):

Yep. Whenever possible playing video:

  • Maintain the intended/original aspect ratio.
  • Don’t crop any part of the image, horizontally or vertically.

I use the stretch feature on regular movies. Please don’t tell us how to watch movies. We have an expensive OLED and want to make use of every inch of it and we like it.

Just because you dislike it, doesn’t mean we should dislike it too and watch black bars on the video. Plex previously allowed us to stretch the video in the old TV app.

Just tell us if the new app is planned to do the same or not?

And Nobody uses the zoom feature.

As is your prerogative. To that end, see this note in the “coming soon” section of the announcement article (emphasis mine):

So, filling up every inch of that big, expensive screen is on their minds. Hopefully stretch will be there in the end as well as zoom. (They generally do, on platforms which support it.)

“Zoom to fill” is completely different from “stretch”. The android tv Plex app has both these options. Please see them to understand.

Oh, I understand what the video modes are. One of my local OTA TV channels used to broadcast in a horizontally compressed, near 1:1 aspect ratio. So I used the “Stretch” display mode to correct it and pull it back out to the near-4:3 it should have been (old SG-1 episodes). I only needed it to play back recordings from that single channel, but I did find the feature useful. The station has since corrected their broadcasts so I don’t need to resort to aspect ratio correction any longer.

And in my other post I pointed out that they’ve implemented the same four display modes available in the legacy Android app in the new mobile app (version 2025.13.0. Given that the new apps share a common codebase it seems highly likely that these modes will make it to iOS and Apple TV in time as well. That was one of the primary drivers for Plex creating the new apps: A consistent user experience across the various platforms..

So, based on the note in the announcement and the implementation in Android mobile, I think you may end up getting your wish. Call me an optimist.

As pshanew mentioned the display modes should now be available in the beta from this week 2025.13.0.
You can find them under Playback Settings > Playback Options > Display Mode when playing media.
There is an option for Stretch not just Zoom.

Is there any chance to get this working on ultrawide monitors for the AppleTV? I see those playback options present in the preview app but they don’t appear to do anything. I would be nice to have movies fill the entire screen on ultrawide monitors like the AppleTV app does with its content!

Does this include all the Samsung Tizen clients as well as the desktop (Plex for Windows) versions?
Would love stretch to be availiable consistently across all the clients (it works great on Android TV currently).

Thanks!

Thank you for your work! Is the audio boost feature coming in the future?
