With the new major mobile update, there are heavy frame drops when certain .ass subtitle tracks are used. Screen recordings of the old/new app versions are linked above. This regression is likely because mpv is no longer used as the video player on iOS.

I’m having the same issue of incorrect fonts and styling with .ass subtitles embedded int an .mkv
