Subtitles remain problematic in Plex for AppleTV on my AppleTV 4k v2.
All my files are .mp4 H.264/AAC with embedded subtitles in English with UTF-8 encoding.
Movies are typically 1280p, streamed over Gigabit Ethernet and played through passthrough (so minimal demand on the transcoding).
On the regular Plex app for AppleTV, whenever I activate the subtitles, I get a warning that says, “Your connection to the server is not fast enough…”. It still plays the video just fine, though, so the warning makes no sense.
Using the latest build of the Plex Experience Preview beta for AppleTV, I do not get the warning, but the encoding is completely messed up, and most characters end up as squares or other weird symbols.
So, no matter what version of the app I use, I end up with issues with subtitles
