Subtitles causing playback to stop

I downloaded some english srt files for a french dubbed anime, used the proper naming convention according to the guide and everything. I can play the episodes just fine, but if I try to select the english subtitles during playback, or change the server settings to force the subtitles, it crashes back to the home screen with an error saying “Conversion failed. The transcoder crashed or failed to startup.”

Any ideas why this is happening and how I can fix it?

You either have insufficient CPU power to transcode and burn-in the subtitles into the video stream because the player cannot accept SRT subtitles or the more likely, due to the error message you’ve shared, is missing something critical.

Either way, to diagnose further, we will need to see your log files (settings - server - help - download logs) retrieved about 20 seconds after the attempt fails.
