Subtitles are only working for about 2 minutes, then they just don’t show any more. Thinking this is a bug. Anyone else got this issue?
Plex dont care, this issue been known for many weeks, they havent cared about it… Only option is to downgrade to 1.8.xx
Hi Tearspacer,
I have the same problem. When I switch between subtitles it shows for a couple of lines and than disappears.
@Plex people: attached the log whilst watching a movie and repeatingly selecting a subtitle. (as said above, it shows for a little while than disappears).
And to think I was about to buy this software. Plex has gotten progressively worse and is now actually broken for subtitles on the Windows Chrome web client, and the updated UI is garbage. Sad, I really like the software otherwise, but it looks like Plex is running me away.

Plex is aware of the issue of the subtitles disappearing. I know it was also discussed between the ninja’s as well earlier this month. I do not have any ETA’s on a fix though.
Thanks Plex forum community people for the solution! It was just there on the forum for me to read.
I downgraded to version 1.8.1.4139 and the problem is solved!
Took me about 1 minute to uninstall the 1.9 version and reinstall the 1.8 version from the plex update folder.
The windows path is C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Updates\1.8.1.4139-c789b3fbb\packages.
So now I just hold on to 1.8 till the Plex folks have solved the issue.
Ver. 1.9.4.4325
I have the same problem. When switch between subtitles it shows for a couple of time 20-60 sec and than disappears.
The issue is both when play form fresh or resume.
This is a serious problem as I hope plex is working on high pressure to correct. We are many who are forced into a downgrade. Hope there are no security updates so we become viable!
go to 1.8.4
this does work for now…
How can i revert back to 1.8.4 ? I’m on mac OSX. (tried the package, unzip content folder and replace it but still says it’s the latest version)
I installed server version 1.9.4.4325 as followup and the subtitle issue is still present. Subtitles appear initially but stop showing after a couple of minutes.
To put it simply, How many of us cancelling our Pass subscription because of this will get Plex Developers to solve this? I’m getting tired of not getting support on this, I’ve been patient for months now.
I couldn’t care less about most Plex Media Server features like Auto art-download, Music, mobile downloads, cloud play or “live TV” streaming, as I use (and pay) for other streaming services like Apple Music, Netflix, and Amazon Prime that are much better than Plex for those specific features. “Burned in” Ad-Hoc subtitles is practically the only reason I pay for Plex Pass, I need Plex to play my personal files and physical media backups with the subtitles I want, the ones I like best or some I often translate or “fix” myself.
You either fix this ASAP or you’ll start loosing several international clients that will install the new version and never find a reason to keep paying for Plex Pass like me.
It is still problem on 1.9.7
Same, disappears after 3-4 minutes on Chromecast 2, works fine in the web player (Vivaldi)
1.10 does have this problem too?
Yes. I am on version 1.10.0.4523 and subtitles that are not burned in will disappear when streaming to chromecast after a couple of minutes. I hope they will fix it soon.
Also now finding since this update issue that some mkvs are now stuttering after awhile playing. Never happened on 1.8.4. Is there an online graveyard where we can get these old versions?

Tried googling everywhere to get that version no luck. I never had sub or stuttering issues wit that version. Any chance you could pm a link for me or stick it in your public dropbox if you use it? Would be much appreciated. Oh and would need to be the mac not pc version.
Plex Media Server 1.10.1.4561 is okay for subtitle???
Plex inc said that subtitle disappearance is somewhat solved.
Would it be so bad for Plex to have an old versions download area for us all?

I also cant understand why plex doesnt allow us to download old version to avoid current problem like subtitle disappearance.
Also very very latest does NOT solve the subs disappearing. Come on Plex stop mucking about with a News addition. We have the internet for that and a DVR function. Seriously? Who records TV these days. It’s a dinosaur like VCRs and CDs. Especially as Plex is primarily for streaming locally.
