Subtitles dropping out on Samsung TV

After a few more days, looks like all the issues appear to be fixed for me at least. Subtitles seems to be keeping up, lines aren’t being missed, and they’re working from one episode to the next again. Think the latest update has fixed it, thanks.

For me the 5.3.1 upgrade did not fix the issue. I still experience

  • lines omitted
  • subtitles dropping out entirely after a short time

Rewinding one instance (pressing left arrow) makes the subtitles return.

Extremely annoying.

For me, sdh captions embedded in .mkv videos do not get detected by the tizen-preview.

I can confirm that if you pressing right arrow (fastforward) several times, subtitles dont appear anymore and I need to exit the episode and resume it. Rewinding doesn’t work for me.

Version : 5.4.1 Preview

I can’t say if I had this problem with 5.3.1

I also have these problems on 5.4.2

I am getting the same error too. In version 5.4.2

Like the image above, there are only half the subtitles.
Or It doesn’t come out at all.

Can we get some new logs?

Like the other time, there is nothing relevant in logs but problem is definitively still here with 5.4.2 version.

I tested with the last Good Doctor episode and sometimes subtitles didnt show, sometimes there is only one line instead of two. Rewinding do nothing but if you stop and play again, the missing subtitles/lines appears.

As you can see on video, there are missing lines the first time, then the second time after rewind and missing lines appear after restart the episode.

Sometimes, i have the same problem as @SANGJIN_JEONG too. When this happened, the entire plex screen on Librairies is divided in four parts, like checkerboard, and i need to exit the app to resolve the issue.

Send me a PM if you need my file, like the other time.

I assume this is a 2016 TV? If so, then I think it’s related to some memory issues we’re having on those devices. We’re still investigating right now, but I think that’s what’s causing the checkerboard issue as well as subtitles dropping.

If someone’s having issues with subtitles still on a non-2016 device I’d like to know, but otherwise I believe it’s related.

You are right, it’s 4K from 2016.

At least you are aware of the issue

I am UN65KS8500 model and I am the 2016 model.
same @gabr

But my friend uses QN75Q60R. 2019 model. The last 95% of the images have the same caption loss error.

Hi,

I’m facing a similar issue with the Plex app on a Tizen Samsung Q80T TV (2020). It appears that if the source video on the media server is a .mkv the TV just doesn’t see that there are subtitles available at all.
For H265 videos with .srt subtitles in the same folder it sees it but once I select them it shows “buffering” and then it just freezes.
The subtitles setting has already been changed to only image subtitles from automatic.
I crosstested it with the web version and with the windows app but none of them are facing the issue.
The android app doesn’t have the issue either, it’s only with the Plex app on Tizen.

I’ve found that the subtitles will disappear if I skip forward or backward. Using 5.5.1 on Tizen 2.4. Sometimes they will come back in time.

Same issue. Subtitles are not available for me to choose on the Samsung Smart TV (Q60T), even tough I can see them on the web interface or Android activated app.
On playback, 3/4 of the video the subtitles simply disappear. I have to change to some other language and then come back to the language I was so the “Buffering” message shows, and that makes the subtitles back. Very annoying.

PMS version 4.43.4
App version 5.1.0

Actually, the Samsung app says Plex is 5.1.0, but on the about for Plex, it says 5.5.1…

I noticed also the following: if I’m on the episode view page, and I go to “select subtitle track”, nothing is shown.
After I hit play, if I click on the icon at the bottom left for subtitles selection, nothing is shown. However, if I click on ellipsis on the bottom right and go to subtitles, I can see them listed and are able to select them.

But once that video is done, if I try the same steps, nothing is shown at any of the places. Restarting the app/TV solves the problem.

Since the new update, forced subtitles (Srt) dont work on MKV.

The last version is barely usable with subtitles. They don’t start even if they are selected before and after that, if they started, they stop at the middle of the media.
