Subtitles for English movies the add a second language ie Bad Boys or Midway

Server Version#:4.31.1 Running on Window

I apologize if this has been answered but I could not find it. I have the full plex pass and fell like I have subtitles set up correctly but can’t get subtitles to work when watching movies in English that add a second language to a portion of the movie like Midway and Bad boys.

I checked the subtitle settings in setting/agent then refreshed the movies but still can’t get the subtitles to show up.

Any ideas?

Are you using external subtitles, embedded subtitles, subtitles on demand?

Are the audio tracks in the movies tagged appropriately? On the movie pre-play screen do they appear as English, etc or as Unknown?

Make sure you have Local Media Assets enabled. See support articles below.

Please show how you have the movie and subtitle files named and organized. You should be following Plex standards. The main body of the movie and subtitle name must match exactly.
See support articles below.
Example:

/Movies/Avatar (2009)/Avatar (2009).mkv
/Movies/Avatar (2009)/Avatar (2009).eng.srt
/Movies/Avatar (2009)/Avatar (2009).eng.forced.srt

See:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/your-media/using-subtitles/

Do you mean the parts of a movie where characters are speaking in a foreign language?
These are called ‘forced’ subtitles.

Unfortunately these types of subtitles are rather rarely found on websites like opensubtitles.org, so that the automatic subtitle search in Plex will often fail to find any.
Your best bet is to rip them from the original source (DVD/Bluray).

I’m using opensubtitles, I will check local media assets. @OttoKerner is probably correct that I need to rip from the DVD/Blueray.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes I mean part of the movie is in English and a second language is added to a portion of the movie.

Thanks for the reply I had been pulling my hair out with this.

There you will find both the full subs - and the forced subs.
Download and name accordingly. <—after a brief ‘trial and error’ session, if you have to guess at what version you have (with Subtitle Edit you can pretty much just grab one (make the best guess you can) - and sync the lips, the sounds of the words and the text in one go - in about a minute…lol).

A Movie Library/
...Bad Boys for Life (2020)/
......Bad Boys for Life (2020).mkv
......Bad Boys for Life (2020).eng.srt
......Bad Boys for Life (2020).eng.forced.srt

Do also tag your audio tracks with the appropriate language - so Plex knows what to do with the subs you have, but Plex will always turn on Forced subs - even if it has to guess - and get it wrong.
