Subtitles for the Second Part of a 2-Part Movie

I have, what I hope is an easy issue to fix. I have a two-part movie that I figured out how to play in succession as a single file in Plex. However, when it changes to the second part, the audio is in English, and there are no subtitles. Both parts have subtitles already, but I don’t know how to change the language/subtitles for the second part within Plex. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I don’t know if this is where this topic should be, so feel free to move it where it’s relevant.

There is no clean/easy solution, I’m afraid.
Are you saying that the two parts of the movie are from different sources?
Or were they made with the same settings, codecs etc?

If the two parts are made up the same, you could append the second part to the first part and thus get a single file. [HowTo]: joining multi-part movies files with MKVtoolnix GUI

Ugh… Please don’t say that. Appending to a single file won’t work either. There are no subtitles for it as a single file, and I certainly don’t know how to edit one to synch correctly. Unfortunately, it’s an all-or-none proposition. :frowning: It’s a movie released on separate parts. The files are identical in codec/speed/bitrate/etc. But it’s literally Part 1 and Part 2 of the same movie. But Plex won’t accept them as Part 1 and Part 2 separately, either. I managed to get them both playing back to back in a single Plex entry, but I’ve got to figure out how to get it to change the language/subtitles of the second part as it changes to play it.

Which movie are we talking about exactly?

Here is how I would approach it:

  1. use MKVtoolnixGUI to merge part 1 and its subtitle file into one MKV file
  2. do the same with part 2
  3. use the above linked procedure to merge the MKV files of parts 1 and 2

It is Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection. I suppose I could hard sub both parts and remove the English audio track, but that’s a hell of a lot of work. I guess I’ll take what I can get. Thanks for the help so far.

What speaks against my proposal above?

Btw: the two OVA episodes of Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection are listed on TheTVDB as Specials of the tv show.
So you can easily add them to the main show (in a “TV Show”-type of library) and keep them in 2 files.
