I have encountered two issues with my LG SmartTV’s Plex App (other than that its UI is really sluggish in comparison with the Netflix/Disney+/Prime Video apps):
- VTT subtitles can be selected, but don’t show at all.
- SRT subtitles sometimes ignore line breaks between two lines of subtitles, joining both lines without even a space character.
This only appears to happen when
a) the line is enclosed in a tag like <font> and
b) both lines are short enough to fit on a single line.
Examples:
944
01:01:09,080 --> 01:01:12,040
<font color="cyan">Retour aussitôt.</font>
<font color="cyan">Taquet coinceur coincé.</font>
is rendered as
Retour aussitôt.Taquet coinceur coincé. (no space after aussitôt.)
or
957
01:01:47,600 --> 01:01:50,080
<font color="cyan">Brume qui rendait</font>
<font color="cyan">l'île d'Aix invisible.</font>
as
Brume qui rendaitl'île d'Aix invisible.
Whereas
962
01:02:02,960 --> 01:02:05,360
C'est vous qui avez
racheté le Zigomar ?
is correctly displayed on two lines, as well as
947
01:01:22,320 --> 01:01:25,240
<font color="cyan">J'ai fait un noeud de cravate,</font>
<font color="cyan">ça a très bien tenu.</font>
I’m assuming the latter works correctly because the lines are long enough not to be joined.
My suggestion would be to either respect the line breaks as present in the SRT file or at least place a space between the joined lines.
Thanks,
Tim
