Server Version#: v1.32.6.7557-1cf77d501 (Synology)
Player Version#: 5.69.1 (Samsung QN95B 2022 model)
The problem: When watching anything using the Plex app on my Samsung TV the final line of subtitles is not displayed. So for example, if there are 10 lines of subtitles in an SRT, the tenth line will not be displayed.
This occurs with both internal and external subtitles, and affects both SRT and ASS formats.
The subtitles display in full if I play the file via DLNA on the TV.
Also the subtitles display fine using Plex for Windows.
I believe the same thing occurs with LG TVs.
This has been a problem for a long time now and is mentioned elsewhere. @sa2000 suggested starting a new topic to track the issue so I’m doing that here. I’ve sent @sa2000 my logs and an example file.
Yeah, confirming this is happening on the latest Plex server and LG WebOS app too.
No transcoding.
External or Embedded srt files miss the final line.
Viewing the srt with a text editor, the final line is present with correct TC info.
The final line is played back correctly with the MacOS Plex app.
So it’s an issue with the TV app, rather than the file.
Quite frustrating as a final line is usually pretty pertinent to the plot.
Absolutely not a fix, but a workaround I’ve been using is to edit the SRT file and add an extra line. You can’t just add a blank line, so I usually just put “END” and I always time it to appear near the end of the credits so if they ever do fix this it won’t be something I’ll have to edit back out.
An update to the various Plex TV apps that had this issue was released yesterday
Please see the various Plex fpr Smart TV forum announcements
Plex for Samsung
Version 5.77.1
Fixed an issue where the last line of subtitles don’t get shown
and similarly
Plex for WebOS 3.0+ (LG Televisions)
Version 5.77.1
and
Plex HTPC for Mac, Windows, and Linux - Version 1.56.1
Plex for VIDAA (Hisense television) - Version 5.77.1
Plex for VIZIO Smartcast - Version 5.77.1
Yes, I was able to test this last night after I got the update and the last line in my test video was displaying with both internal and external subs. So initial impressions are good.
