Subtitles issue

Hello I hope someone can help me..

I have a pretty wierd suptitle issue and it is that if I turn on subtitles on a video then u cant watch it. it kinda looks the video is all smeered out over the screen the audio still works and I can see the subtitles (and its synced with the audio) but I cant watch the video.
If I turn off the subtitles again then its no problem then I can watch the video without any problem.
This is a new problem havent been like this before.
does anyone have any ideas?
