Subtitles destroy video render or freeze playback

Player Version#: 4.20.1

Whenever playing mkv files and turning on subtitles or loading .srt subtitles the video freezes and they’re nasty artifacts on the screen. This is for all movies with subtitles but only with Plex playback. If I turn off subtitles the show plays immediately. I’m not sure what Plex update caused this but it is within the past few months. I normally don’t watch films with subtitles so it’s hard to pinpoint but they were working at one point. What can I do to fix it?

Thank you very much for sharing this post. I uninstalled my current version and installed 1.18.4.2155 instead. Subtitles work again. Thank you guys again.
