I have noticed this a few times on mostly anime on my server, but I am getting anime that is blocky and pixelated. Totally unwatchable. Source file works just fine. I have deleted it from the share, and then re-scanned Plex to make it disappear, then added it back and then scanned again. Tried it again and it still is the same result. I am at a loss right now.
It is a known ApolloLake issue with the driver from Intel.
Below is a work around which will need be repeated if PMS is updated prior to fix.
SSH into the synology. (Control Panel - Terminal & SNMP - Enable ssh)
Once there
sudo -su root
cd "/var/packages/Plex Media Server/target/lib/dri"
rm iHD_drv_video.so
ls -la
the last command confirms it’s been deleted.
Now restart PMS>
Like this? Haven’t SSH’d in awhile.
:~$ sudo -su root

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
#2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

The system is going down for reboot NOW!
Pretty sure that fixed it. I tried it again after the reboot and good to go. Is this something that gets replaced or something I need to do regularly? Is this file generated in some way?
The driver is distributed with the package.
If you update PMS, and it’s not yet fixed, you’ll need delete the iHD driver again.
What this workaround does is remove the iHD and allow PMS to fall back to the i965
Thanks.
This is fixed in the preview build linked in this thread Hardware Transcoding broken when burning subtitles ApolloLake-based Synology NASes - #101 by chrisallen
sadly it’s not fixed
Hey guys! Apologies for the delay. I have updated the links in my post here
These now use the older i965 driver for Apollo Lake processors which fixes the corruption issue when burning subtitles, and also includes a driver patch to fix the poor quality that is experienced during the for 30-60 seconds of playback, It also fixes the color conversion issue that some users experience when HW transcoding 10-bit media.
Please install build 1.18.7.2306-9bdf93750 linked in the post here and let me know if it solves your issues.
