I’ve been finding that the current “MasterChef Duos” on Fox does not record subtitles. However if I watch the same feed on HDHomerun there ARE subtitles available. How do I get Plex to record them?
Look in the properties of the DVR in Plex.
Did you tell it to “transcode during recording”? If you did, switch that off.
I couldn’t find that transcode setting, but all other channels record the subtitles just fine, although I do have a problem with NBC often giving me Spanish subtitles and I have to play around with the subtitle playback until I can get it back to English.
Thanks,I’ve unchecked it and I’l try non-hardware encoding and we’ll see next Wednesday, but why would that only affect only one channel?
Something is broken in the HW transcoder pipeline. Just curious, why are you transcoding at all? I’ve been testing and in order to get any decent quality it doesn’t save any space, sometimes makes the file larger and it doubles the time for commercial detection.
Why am I transcoding? I dunno, must have been a good idea at the time when I set up Plex 7 years ago. thanks for your help.
And with transcoding off MasterChef has finished and has no subtitles in the Plex recording while on another computer I watched via HDHomerun and there Were subtitles… thoughts?
Can you use Subtitle Edit?
If you do, try and open a few of the recorded files with it.
See if subtitles get recognized.
It seems as if Subtitle Edit is Windows based (?), and I am on a Mac, but I’ll see if I can get it loaded in Parallels and get back to you .
Subtitle Edit loaded fine in Parallels, but said there were no subtitles in my file. I’m happy to upload it to you but it’s 2G in size.
Do you let Plex detect and remove ad breaks?
This is the only thing I could imagine that could change the recorded data.
I just checked last night’s recording and there WERE subtitles. Maybe it was the transcoding… (But why only on one show?). Anyway, I’ll reply again when I get more data after a few more recordings.
