The sub-titles even though present as SRT with exact filename as MP4, shows the sub-titles for a few frames and does not work. This happens across most of the media I have.
I did rescan one of the files in my library and that didn’t help
I am watching the media via Apple TV - WiFi connection
I have the same issue, subtitles don’t work on AppleTV. I tried many workarounds, like selecting the old player, creating own subtitle settings,…. But none of them helped.
Can anyone estimate when this will be fixed?
I can confirm that SRT subtitles on Apple TV currently do not work. I really hope this will be fixed soon because I watch almost all my content with subtitles.
PMS Version: 1.41.3.9314
Apple TV App Version: 8.44 (9600)
tvOS Version: 18.1
One more addition to my previous post:
Only external SRT subtitles are not working, neither if they are co-located with the media file nor via the Plex Subtitle feature where subtitles can be fetched from OpenSubtitles. If SRT subtitles are embedded in the media file, they are working fine.
Is there any chance this gets any attention in the near future? Or do I have to wait for the new Player Experience Update for Apple TV? Sadly, the beta is already full, so I can’t attest if external SRT subtitles work correctly in the new app. Unfortunately, I rely heavily on external SRT subtitles, so this feature not working is kind of a dealbreaker for me for using Plex.
Steps to reproduce:
Use any media file in any library (TV show or movie does not matter)
Add external SRT subtitles by saving a .srt file with the same name co-located with the media file
Select “English (External SRT)” (or whatever language) as subtitle when playing the media file via Plex for Apple TV
Expected results:
Subtitles render successfully and are rendered with the subtitle style configured in Apple TV settings.
Actual results:
Subtitles do not render/show at all. They are just missing entirely.
