So out of multiple displays in my house my cinemaScope screen can not be used With the new player because of the subtitle placement. In the older version (of the player) the subtitle positions were determined from the lowermost (or uppermost) row of pixels, now it defaults to 16:9 for movies of any aspect ratio. For people trying to visualize you will not see a change of subtitles position with different aspect ratios whereas with the old player the subtitles would always be present in the image of the movie. I know I might be a very small sample case, but please, see if you can do something about this in the new player. Thank you
Of which “new” player are you talking?
Plex Media Player still has the same player.
Are you using a native projector?
Or 16:9 projection with “overscan”?
Personally I like it when the subtitles aren’t in the middle of the image. But I’m sympathetic - if there isn’t a setting, subtitles should be be rendered inside the image frame.
Is it possible that you’re using a different format of subtitles, or that you’re rendering subtitles locally vs. server-side?
It’s under settings > ADVANCED > new video player. It’s been there for a while and so has been my gripe.
No. I just have a black diamond cinema’s cope due to less height of my room (condos these days. )
I’m using an epson 5040/8300 for the last 2 years. Perfect match.
That looks like a Plex AndroidTV client setting, not Plex Media Player (which runs on Windows or MacOS).
Which Plex client do you have - FireTV Stick, Nvidia Shield, something else?
Also, what version? See https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/devices/all
I have these settings on my Sony android TV and Nvidia shield (Android TV) again.
Updated plex player app today and now the plex is force closing when switching to old player. Cheverly watching a movie I’ll research and update in a few hours.
Just an update. Ran a few tests on both primary (FREENAS server) and secondary (Shield Pro 2019) server with similar results.
Disabling new player works for 16:9. Any other aspect ratio either force closes the app or stretches the image vertically to a 16:9 image, then plays it for a bit while the remote control is disabled and in about 10 seconds (roughly) plex player restarts or closes completely.
PRIMARY PMS 1.20.3252
SECONDARY PMS 1.19.5.3112
PLEX WEB 4.34.4
PLEX for Android TV (Shield Pro 2019) 8.6.0.20351
With the previous version of Plex Android TV, the old player was used by me for running subs at the correct location (even at the cost of performance/features), now I can’t seem to do it at all.
hey @bhootz Did you solve the subtitle’s position problem? I use a Panasonic AE8000 and when I change for cinemascope screen I went at the same problem as you…(Nvidia Shield Pro 2017, AppleTV 4th Gen (1080p))
Sadly None. I tried direct play with old player and finding subs online using the old player (Disabling new player) and that seems to be only way around it for a few files. Rest I’m waiting for a fix to watch the foreign flicks.
I’ve been trying to bring this problem to the attention of Plex, but there’s no concrete answer. Now the old player crash, so there is no way to have srt subs inside the 2.35 frame. There should be a feature to place the subtitle anyplace inside the vertical plane of the frame, like some media players do (ie Mede8er).
Yes the old player is crashing more often than before and it’s random force close. Some files run for 10 seconds before plex restarts and some run for 5 minutes. Others just don’t even start. It’s really not worth gaming the option of the old player. Also tried downgrading to older plex version and I think the incompatibility with the plex server (newer) version doesn’t populate the files on the GUI. I guess we are stuck on the new player now.
