Android TV - New Video Player - Subtitle Placement

Server Version#: 1.19.5.3006
Player Version#: 8.2.1.18636
Player: Nvidia Shield TV Pro 2019

Issue: Subtitle placement is different in the new video player than it is on the old one, and it presents a problem for my particular use case. Specifically, I use Plex in a projector setup, and when watching a scope movie (2.35:1 or thereabouts) I physically mask the unused portions of the screen with black.

Old behaviour: On the old player, subtitles are placed inside the video area. So on a full 1080p video (1920x1080) they’re near the bottom of the screen. However, on a video with a wider aspect ratio (1920x816, let’s say) the subtitles MOVE UP, and are presented near the bottom of the video file’s picture, NOT at the bottom of the entire screen. This is great for me, because subtitles do not fall on the masked portion of the screen

New behaviour: On the new video player, this does not hold true. Subtitles fall outside the visible area of wider aspect ratio videos. In fact, they often straddle the line, with half on the picture and half off. Ideally for my purposes the behaviour would remain consistent with the previous player. At the very least through, I’d love an option like “Place subtitles inside video” or something. And regardless, even in a TV setup I think the half-on/half-off the video placement is weird, and it would be nicer to either have them inside the video, or in the black bar below if there is one.
