Subtitles Plex Compatible

Hi,

I was testing and after searching a bit about it, I found something strange. Some movies I’ve downloaded has external subtitles in .srt format. I saw that this extension is compatible with Plex at all. But in all movies, when I try to put the subtitle, it transcode it! Like it was not compatible.

I tried it in my LG WebOS Smart TV, PS4 and Android and all of them has the same behavior. Is that normal?

What are your player’s settings for subtitle?

Here is what it looks like on my Nvidia Shield under Settings->Video->Burn subtitles

I don’t have any problems using external SRT subtitles with is set to Automatic.

If the player isn’t incompatible with anything else in the file (audio formats, for example) it will transcode. You will have to look up what formats each player is compatible with.

Hmm… Strange. On any device I use has this option of Burn Subtitles. LG WebOS, Android or PS4.

I’ve got an LG C9 and this is what it looks like on the TV’s Plex app:

i see It now! But it’s already automatic… Strange.

Look, I tried here. I got a Movie with external subtitle in .srt. when I play It without subtitles, It Direct streams, but with subtitles, It transcode It ALL.

I’m not sure why your TV is converting the MKV to MPEGTS. Your tv looks compatible with MKV…

from:

It might be that the SRT subs won’t direct play since your player is already converting something else in the file.

Do you have direct play enabled in the player settings? You can see the option right under the “Burn Subtitles” option.

Yes! My tv supports these formats. I really don’t understand why It transcodes this ■■■■. Even without subtitles, It transcodes the container.

Yes! direct play and Direct stream is activated.
