Subtitles sometimes not appearing during anime episode

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.29.2.6364-6d72b0cf6-x86_64_DSM7
Player Version#: chromecast playstore plex version 9.10.1.36024

It worked fine before on server PlexMediaServer-1.28.2.6151-914ddd2b3-x86_64_DSM7 but then I upgraded to PlexMediaServer-1.29.2.6364-6d72b0cf6-x86_64_DSM7 and subtitles are all buggy now and sometimes during crucial conversations only half will show up.

I tried installing the old one back using the manual installer on my DS920+ but it stated it does not allow roll backs…

Is this a known bug? Can this be fixed? And if not, is there a way to get back to my older version, as I can’t really enjoy my anime right now…

+1.
I have this problem too and have had it for a while now.
From what I can tell, text formatted in italics are not shown.
It’s not clear to me if there are any other cases.

I’m also on chromecast.

plex version: 9.11.1.36576 (75b91d63)
server version: 1.30.0.6406

development/support for plex has been weird for the last few years.
it might be time to change camp.
i hear good things about jellyfin.

I’ve seen the same problem, the new ASS subtitle support does not render italic subtitles (which are used for most internal dialog in anime subs). So lots of lines are lost.

I had to go back to using Kodi until this is fixed.

Bump, associating another thread of the same issue:

The only means of “fixing this” currently seems to be burning all subtitles or using Kodi. There are no related bugs in libass, despite that being the referenced library (peaking in the apk file) that they seem to be using for the client on Android devices (Nvidia Shield, Chromecast with Google TV, etc.).
