I had a problem with Plex insisting that it could not connect to the server, so I uninstalled it from my PC and Firestick. It is running again but refusing to give me subtitles that used to work perfectly. They are embedded ass or saa subtitles in mkv files. I believe everything is set correctly
However on the firestick it says subtitles none and if I hit Settings/Select Subtitles it shows “none” even though there could be both English and Polish subtitles.
In the back of my mind I seem to remember when I first installed Plex a few years ago I had to make an amendment to one of the files in the Plex or Plex Media server folder but I cannot seem to find those instructions any more.
Is Plex still scanning that library?
Can you check out the media details for one of the movies showing no video, no audio, no subtitles based on the support article linked below (pre-play screen, click ... > Get Info > View XML, copy the content of <media>...</media>)
I do not believe Plex is still scanning. I can see nothing going round and round. I attach a XML for one of the files. This is zipped because the system will not allow me to upload an xml
Please access the episode’s context menu in Plex Web and click Analyze. This should update the technical reference of that file in Plex. If things work properly, Plex should subsequently update the streams listed in the episode’s pre-play stream (1 video stream, 1 audio stream, 3 subtitle streams).
Depending on the outcome of this step we can dig deeper on (1) fixing your library and (2) identifying why Plex didn’t properly analyze those files in the first place.
side note… you might want to consider to name your files in accordance to Plex’ naming conventions for tv shows. This should not be related to the issue above but can cause trouble further down the road.
Naming should be:
J:\TV
White House Farm
Season 01
White House Farm - s01e01.mkv
Other than a small wheel going round nothing happens.
I am aware of the naming convention. If you put a one off TV programme in a folder with just its name Plex wont find it. Rename it S01E01 and it does. Sometimes you also have to add the year to the folder name because if there is an American programme with a similar name it will choose that one.
I have the sama problem. TV shows not appear subtitles but on movies it’s working! I have a correct naming convenction. Anyone knows how to solve that problem?
