No. So sorry I was confusing. The plex website and the app won’t recognize that I downloaded the latest version of the plex app. The website and the app continue to say that something went wrong and to download the plex app manually, even though I already downloaded it manually. Also, nothing happens when I click the claim my server button. I’m pretty sure they have nothing to do with each other.
Something must be interfering with the claim process. My prime suspect is that russian anti virus software.
What should I do?
Get rid of the anti virus completely. The included Microsoft anti virus in Windows 10/11 is a generally sufficient base protection.
Then check your hosts file if it contains any Plex-related entries. If it does, remove them as well. Hosts file/Edit - Wikiversity
Disable any web browser add-ins.
Try again to claim your server.
I already got rid of the anti virus a couple of days ago and am using the Microsoft one. I will read the article and follow the instructions, and do the other steps you mentioned. Thanks so much for your promt replies.
Sorry for the delay. I got terribly ill and am just getting better. I did not find any Plex related entries in the hosts file and even though I disabled all my browser add-ins, I still cannot claim my server. Nor will the site show that I downloaded the latest version of the server. What now??
Sorry, What exactly do you mean with “site”?
And we are still talking about the server, not the player.
I’m talking about general page that shows my server and if I need to update the server.
Could you please provide a screenshot? Open Snipping Tool and take a screenshot
Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing.
Is it possible that you have several computers with Plex installed?
Or does the one you’re using have several Windows user accounts on it?
Does the name “Crafting HP” tell you something?
I have two computers. Each computer has one account and a plex server. So this computer is HP and the other is the Crafting HP.
Gotcha.
So, this message says that the server update was unsuccessful.
You can try to perform a manual update, like so:
- Stop/quit/end Plex Server with the tray icon
- deinstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows
(do not use 3rd party ‘Uninstaller’ software like Revo etc.
do not use “Registry Cleaner/optimizer” software like CCleaner et al) - for safety, reboot Windows
- download the installation exe of the newer version from the plex.tv homepage and install it
Okay, I will try it now.
Nothing changed
Does it still say “something went wrong”?
Has your other computer been running during the last week or so?
Yes it does.
Have you refreshed the web page in the browser, after reinstalling the new server software?
Have you actually been downloading the server software and not the Player?
Yes I have installed the player and the server. I know there is a difference. It just won’t recognize that the server is downloaded.
The displayed server software version is correct for a user without Plex Pass. There is currently no newer version available.
