Sufficient PC Capability for Plex Media Server / HTPC?

Would my 5+ year old HP PC suffice for a Plex Media Server / HTPC or should I buy a new one?

[OLD PC] HP Pavilion Elite HPE-170t PC
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• Intel® Core™ i5-750 quad-core processor [2.66GHz, 1MB L2 + 8MB shared L3 cache]
• 8GB DDR3-1333MHz SDRAM [4 DIMMs] from 6GB
• 1TB 7200 rpm SATA 3Gb/s hard drive
• 1GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 220 [DVI, HDMI, VGA]
• Wireless-N LAN card
• 15-in-1 memory card reader, 1 USB, 1394, audio
• No TV Tuner

Is the above sufficient to use as Plex Media Server/ HTPC? or should I consider the one Best Buy has for $380? OR Should i just look to build one (which I have never done).

this should be sufficient

Thanks for response - however not clear…

is the 1st option (my current, 5 year old HP ) sufficient or would i need something more modern like the asus?

THanks!

Oh - i guess i see that you were probably referring to the link

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5+750+@+2.67GHz

was “sufficient.” I suppose that implies that neither the 5 year old processor / desktop I have nor the Asus would be adequate. I’m starting to think this might require a trip to MicroCenter here in MN as I’m not a PC building hobbyist nor on that front end of assessing technical capacity of a machine.

I know I am capable of puting Plug A into Socket B and using a screw driver if building an HTPC is the way to go…

As I understand it, your old HP has that i5 processor.
The processor has enough power for one transcode of 1080p and one transcode of 720p.

It will work as a plex server.

THANK YOU for clarifying, much appreciated. And that is good news then so I can seek to repurpose my older HP for a server and spend money on a personal desktop or laptop…just try to strip down all the software on it leaving only what’s needed for PLEX, and either expand the desktop’s memory bank or add my personal NAS that holds the movies.

oh fun…love being a newbie and exploring this.
