An idea for additional revenue: Multi-Server Support
My thought here would be to set one server as a Master and the others as Slaves. All libraries would report to the Master what is available as well as scheduled DVR recordings and tuners available.
The Master could allow the scheduling of DVR recordings to available resources, wherever they may be. This way all available resources are put to use when there are programming conflicts. You could even allow weighting of resources should you wish to keep one available for Live view or shift most of the recording work to one system first.
Allow the Master to unify the display of libraries so that each individual instance of Plex is hidden. All available media is reported to the user and the Master handles the backend logistics. If media is located on a NAS available to all systems, then once the user has viewed an item, it is marked as played across all systems for that user.
This hit home this week as I had a power supply start that most annoying hum all IT Support people HATE to hear. So now I’m using my workstation level machine to watch my programs until I get the PSU replaced. And boom… I suddenly have lots of shows I’ve watched tagged as unplayed.
I’d say this wouldn’t be free as a true client/server setup takes work. It would be a great add-on service for those that have multiple machines on the same network. Make the computers do the hard work and make the GUI a bit more robust.
Anyway, I couldn’t find a suggestions section so if I missed it, sorry. Please move if need be.
