Suggestion: Have auto-play skip next episode after watching 2-part file

I know there’s a post out there already suggesting that auto-play queues up the next unwatched episode. That’s not what I’m asking for.

Let’s say you have a file that’s actually 2 or 3 episodes combined (ie My_Show S01E15-E16). When you get to episode 15, either directly or by auto-play from ep. 14 or by having it queued up in On Deck, then it obviously will play both 15 and 16 because it’s all a single video file. After watching, it correctly marks episode 15 and episode 16 as watched. And if you were then to go to On Deck, it correctly queues up ep. 17. However, if you just let auto-play continue, it tries to play episode 16 next.

So when you have a file that represents multiple episodes, I’d want auto-play afterwards to skip to the next episode that’s not part of that file.

On what client do you experience that (platform and app version)?
Sounds more like a bug to me

This has happened on every version of Plex I’ve ever used, going back to when Plex first released it’s beta app for PS3. This goes for PS3, PS4, Roku TV, Firestick, and others.

If a file is actually 2 episodes combined, Plex puts 2 entries on the show for it and treats them 100% like it’s two completely separate entries except for the fact that they’ll both get marked as played after viewing.

So for example, Season 6 of Charmed ends with a 2 part episode which was combined on the DVD. (And they show as a single episode on DVD sorting order from The TVDB, but I can’t use DVD sort order because I’ve got other episodes that the DVD sorting combines but which are separate files in my collection.)

So, I’ve got it named “Charmed S06E22-E23”. If I go into the season, it still lists both episodes, and that’s fine. But when I watch Ep. 22, the autoplay ALWAYS queues up Ep. 23 right after. However, if I back out of the auto-play screen and check the watched status, it shows both Ep. 22 and Ep. 23 have been watched, and then the premiere for the Season 7 is queued up in On Deck.

Editing to add that in addition to this happening on a slew of players I’ve used over the years, I’ve kept my server up-to-date and yet this has been happening for years. The example with Charmed is a recent one, because I re-watched the whole series over the last few months. So it’s definitely still going on.

Let me ask around a bit… I’ve recently been watching my shows mostly on Apple TV, Android TV and Plex Web and was under the impression this had been working on all platforms

This is not a feature suggestion. I’d consider it a bug report.

Moved this to another category (as Otto pointed out… it’s not actually a feature suggestion).
Though I’m still having trouble to reproduce this… seems to be working ok on all my clients (having played some more episodes since this discussion).
