Don’t worry. They are hard at work on introducing the next feature no one cares about like chat or something.
This is still one of my most desired features for Plex. I’ve been wanting this feature for years and now that both TMDB and TVDB support this feature through each of their respective APIs, I see no reason why it shouldn’t at least be looked at for a future update. Is it just low priority or is it a technical issue? I guess it doesn’t matter either way. Just some acknowledgement that it is at least being considered or worked on would be great. But I suppose for now I will just keep on crossing my fingers for some sort of update on this feature.
I NEED the TMDB different ordering options. I have a lot of series with wrong naming…
Thanks.
Bumping, Crayon Shin-Chan has an entirely different episode structure in the FUNimation dub, which is accurately represented in TVDB but not an option in plex since its not “Aired” or “DVD” officially. Really frustrating.
This affects the Plex DVR feature as well. I use the DVR to record Daniel Tiger and Curious George (both of which pair two stories per episode) for my toddler, and Plex seems completely unable to associate the correct metadata with the episodes. I tracked it down to this problem; the actual aired order of the shows are stored as “alternate order” on TVDB, and Plex can’t access it.
I don’t mind conforming to Plex’s ideas about file naming when I’m adding stuff to my own libraries, but it’s pretty frustrating that the server can’t make sense of files that it generated on its own.
If we can’t get this, it would be nice if Plex at least had an option to show the filename as a fallback. The names of the stories are there in the DVR filenames, but all you get in the UI is “Episode 10” etc.
Any update on this? My Animaniacs is all messed up due to needing the "Joined Order’ from TVDB
This could also be very useful for 物語シリーズ - TheTVDB.com
Hopefully it gets implemented ![]()
I hope this feature gets implemented.
Just encountered a show that uses this feature and I would also like this supported by Plex.
Also reading through this thread I’ve learned that there was a solution to all the times I’ve had issues with combined episodes that I didn’t even know about (if only Plex had supported it, so I guess it didn’t matter that I didn’t know about it before).
Bump!
Voted for this!
Feels like a much-needed feature for TV shows, honestly, since there are a lot of older cartoons that have multiple “episodes” in “one episode”, and I mean… Yes, there’s a workaround to edit each file manually and turn that into single individual episodes but… Let’s be real, that’s a huge amount of work that can easily be avoided with a new sorting option… So… Pretty please add the sorting options? ![]()
Please add this Plex! A much needed feature.
Bump! ![]()
We need this, please.
Bump! SpongeBob is a nightmare as it’s using the joined version
Hello,
TVDb Api v4 is out there for a while now, any updates or alpha/beta versions avalible to test? :>
Bumping this, Spongebob and most cartoons for that matter are an absolute mess with how it is now, I really would like that alternate order option!
There is nothing worse than correctly ordering your favorite files manually according to TVDB for hours, then using this handy script to combine those multi-episode episodes, only for TVDB to decide to change the order of episodes one day and ruin your hard work. This feature cannot come sooner.
Animaniacs!! ARGHHH
This is listed as “joined order” in the web UI and available as “alternative order” through the API. This is selected the same way as aired, dvd or absolute order. It’s literally 1 API parameter that gets changed.
I have seen discussion on this since 2020 in the forums but it’s still not available in Plex.
Any chance this could be implemented? It would have no impact for those that don’t use it but a large quality of life improvement for those who need it. Due to the TVDB’s bizarre policy about splitting cartoon episode segments into seperate episodes in their aired order this makes it impossible to add series like Animaniacs and others where there were multiple skits in an order.
The crazy default ordering is a fault of theTVDB, but the alternative order API option is a simple solution.
PLEASE could this be implemented ![]()
