When navigating movies in a library, if you click on an actor from the cast and crew row you’ll get a list of the movies and tv shows in your Plex libraries that they’re in (among other info) as part of the Discover features in Plex.
But, if a movie is using an edition tag - like “Director’s Cut” or “Unrated” - then that movie isn’t included.
When this was reported as a possible bug, it was mentioned that Discover doesn’t support the editions tag. I’d like to request finding a way to support it as a feature suggestion.
There also can be a bit of a mismatch because Discover seems to dig deeper into cast references than the local metadata so you’ll sometimes get results that don’t show in a regular search if someone had a small or uncredited role. So in that regard you’ll get more results using Discover vs a direct search… as long as the film doesn’t also have an edition tag on it.
Ed Harris is a good example for both of those types of mismatches.

The Abyss and Apollo 13 are missing from Discover results because of the edition tags and Field of Dreams is now listed (unconfirmed role for him according to IMDB).
Having the editions tag is way better than the old “split and leave unmatched” system for more reliable metadata controls and better management for multiple editions which is great. I love using it over any of my previous work arounds which never worked well if I actually had both editions (renaming titles, adding summary info, using posters with edition info, etc).
I think it’d be a nice QoL improvement if Plex could work out how to include Plex matched movies that happen to also have edition tags in Discover results.
