Edition Tag causes Library content to not be picked up as available in the "Discover" section, BUG?

Server Version#: Version 1.32.6.7557
Player Version#: Version 1.79.1.3984-879339ed

When you append an edition tag to a filename e.g. “Famous Movie (2003) {edition-Remastered}.mkv” the movie doesn’t show up as available in your library when looking in the “Discover” tab.

For example when looking at a celebrity profile in “Discover” and checking the movies they’ve starred in, ordinarily it’ll show if the movie is available in your library to watch, if you have any edition tag however it won’t. but if you then realise that it should be available and click on it, it will show as available within the movies discover page it itself.

would be great if this could be fixed, i’m pretty sure it worked in the past, i often look through an actors filmography to see what i feel like watching clicking on what i have available, edition tags shouldn’t effect whether a movie shows up as available or not.

I’ve had a similar situation with others, but it has nothing to do with the edition, and it’s possible for it not to show itself in Discover with or without the edition info. I’ve tested that I have both with and without edition info that may or may not show up in Discover.

We are aware this is issue and have an internal bug tracking it. No ETA when it will be resolved. Just letting you know that we know  . Thank you for reporting!

Thanks for the update, still crossing my fingers this will get fixed soon. It’s starting to be really annoying, I might remove all Editions content until it’s fixed.

This problem bugs me too. After taking a significant amount of time renaming (and writing code to rename) most of my movies files to add edition info, I’m now considering spending more time removing editions because it is interfering with seeing what items in a filmography are in my libraries.

This is especially disappointing after adding editions also resulted in the loss of watched status and ratings.

Hi @Atomatth , any update on the internal bug? :crossed_fingers:

@ph00k no update yet. You bumped so I bumped. Thanks for the reminder!

Hi @Atomatth , is there an older version we could revert our server to in order to solve this while the bug gets fixed?

Also, at this point Plex should add a warning to the Editions documentation that using it currently breaks the Discover feature.

If you’ve enabled syncing of watch state and ratings, that does not currently work with “editions” of movies. Any regular, non-edition movie in your library can sync its watch state or rating, but if you’ve added “edition” information to the item, that item will not be included in syncing. (Doing so would indicate that the activity definitely came from a personal Plex Media Server, since “editions” aren’t available elsewhere.)

As far as I am aware it was always like that from the start.

But this bug is not about the watch state or rating, it’s about the Discover section.

Also, personally, I never have more than one edition of a movie (I don’t want to put the burden of choosing which one on the user), I simply use the Edition field to document/inform which edition I chose.

Discover is what is used to match items to sync status, it says since discover doesn’t have editions, it won’t be synced., even if you merely add edition information. It’s clear. Not diminishing your concern or dismissing the bug, just saying it’s documented.

I don’t know that I’d necessarily equate specific sync functions being called out in that document to mean it covers other Discover based features breaking as well without it saying so; it’s talking about aspects of Discover service without actually mentioning it. It might not hurt, since they have a callout already about issues with Edition tags, to just add “and other Discover based features” or something.

At the same time, it’s a very low priority issue and that “documentation” can have other considerations and the bug is marked to be fixed so… :man_shrugging:

Hopefully the bug will get fixed sooner rather than later and we’ll have a nice QoL function working for us.

Any update on when a fix will be implemented? (I’m very interested therefore BUMP!)

This definitely needs a fix. How much longer do we have to wait?

I know this issue was not related to this specific thread, but the edition support on credit pages issue is still present today. Is there any updates on this? Or at least, is there a specific thread related to this issue that I can keep track of?

This should be available in the current beta. See:
