Some info regarding Ceton, cablecards and copy protections:
"no development or support is required from Ceton to enable protected content"
"It’s not a question of Ceton supporting other DVR platforms, all CableCARD tuners are required to use the DRI specification from CableLabs. This freely-available specification allows DVR software packages to control CableCARD tuners and access copy-freely content. To access Copy Once content the DVR software must implement a CableLabs-approved form of copy protection, typically WM-DRM from Microsoft. This is why MythTV, Sage TV, XMBC, etc. do not support protected content. [What method does PLEX use to enable recording of copy once/never channels like HBO, et al.?]
These companies are free to implement copy-protection, and no development or support is required from Ceton to enable protected content in DVR software which comply with the CableLabs specification. These software developers would have to work with the encryption vendors, support guide data, and pay licensing fees to implement the required encryption and meet the legal requirements surrounding DVR software and CableCARD technology in their products."
Emphasis is MINE. So if PLEX already has a method of encryption for SiliconDust to work with channels like HBO et al., it shouldn’t be THAT hard to add Ceton tuners. The license for encryption is ALREADY established at PLEX.
InfiniTV 6 user here, too! I jumped ship a week ago and went 100% Plex, HDHR Prime CableCARD 3 tuner, Comcast cable, AMD A8 6600K backend server, Nvidia Shield as the head end on my main TV (along with Android OS Plex app updated to have live TV just days ago on mobile and tablet, AND remotely I can stream my live TV!!) Works great, transitioned all my .WTV files and Plex plays all my WMC7 recordings flawlessly. Please add support for Ceton CableCARD tuners! I miss having 6 tuners already, adding support for Ceton, my family will have 9 tuners!!
This is copy/paste DIRECTLY from kinoCharlino Regarding beta/testing Ceton tuners:
“That is one of the tuners that definitely won’t work. It appears the Ceton drivers do not conform to Broadcast Driver Architecture that we support, which is the standard interface used by tv tuners in Windows. Thus we would need to do custom support for it, which is very unlikely, since the company itself appears to be unavailable. As we spread this out to more Plex Pass users, we’ll be publishing in the forums a list of tuners, like this one, that for sure won’t work due to such issues.”

I have a Ceton InfiniTV ETH on my WMC box that has run continually for three years. Put me in the “waiting for Plex to support it” camp. I purchased the PlexPass hoping for this to happen. Please do this!

I think they’ve made it abundantly clear that they (Plex) has no interest in developing for Ceton devices. See the link in the above post… This is really sad.
Just looks like I’m going to have to migrate from one Ceton ETH 6 to two Silicon Dusts when it comes time and I just can’t deal with WMC any longer.
My only real hold-out with not pulling the trigger (I don’t mind spending the money if the product just works), is the lack of a traditional program guide. Once there is a traditional program guide, I think I may just convert over anyway.

It is sad. I posted my support before reaching the end of the thread. Might try the TVHProxy hack this weekend.
I realize this forum post is dead. I’m only posting here for those of you like me who found this a couple of years ago hoping for some method of using your ceton product with plex. I’m sorry to say it’s most likely not going to happen. We were fairly early adopters and we all (including Ceton) got burned by Microsoft killing off media center. Truthfully I kept my 7MC system going right up until this summer and used the heck out of it until recently. Honestly I don’t have need of it anymore and as such I’m letting it die.
The question I had to answer was “is this worth maintaining anymore?” and truthfully it’s not. My family has been using Netflix, Hulu, and other services almost exclusively for a year. The last time this machine went out due to a power outage no one really noticed for a week as no one went to watch normal cable. As such I am allowing my cable package to expire and I’ll switch to internet only. What few “protected content” shows I watched I now just buy the seasons. I don’t need to maintain an expensive cable TV plan and worry about this anymore.
My “cable box” htpc will get a low profile GeForce 1650 and a ram bump to become a lan party machine. My main plex server already had a great Hauppauge ATSC dual tuner card that Plex picked up right away. What little TV I still watch I pick up over the air.
What sucks is this was a nearly $400 dollar card in 2011. Yes I know this because I was one of the early adopters. However considering I used a xbox 360 extender and the main pc hooked to a TV I essentially had 2 DVR’s. As my cable company charged $15 each per month and I used this for 8 years straight I saved $2,880 over that time. More than covering my $400 investment.
My advise to you is to let your ceton card go. Not sure anyone will want them now. Remove the little heater from your HTPC, say a fond fair well and set it aside in your ever growing pile of outmoded parts. If you really still need a cable card tuner get a HDHomeRun Prime. Although use this as a reason to reexamine your entire HTPC usage. You’ll probably find that a HDHomeRun Dual and a couple of subscription services will meet your needs nicely.
I’m right there with darkkaplah. I used my Ceton infiniTV6 ETH and PCIe for years I didn’t spend as much as he did, I think I picked mine up for under $200 at the time and used it from 2013 till the summer of 2019 when our cable bill went up for no real reason. So I cut the cord, bumped up our internet speed and haven’t looked back, between all the streaming services, Plex and what not, the wife and I stop watching normal TV.
I think Ceton tuner would have been a wonderful addition to the Plex abilities and there software is open source, but it would take a real effort to get it working with Plex and to what I have read it’s a dead company. Which is sad, if Microsoft hadn’t pulled the rug out from under them, I think it had a lot to do with piracy and the lack of mainstream adoption that killed Windows Media Center and in turn Ceton as a whole, Ceton and Windows Media Center could have given Plex a run for it’s money.
All in all Plex has taken over my MWC spot, it allows me to access my media library on the go and is almost the best replacement I could fine and I don’t have to buy anymore XBox 360s for extenders anymore. lol I no longer have to use a TVersity server setup to get my media on the go and with the price of Rokus being so cheap, I’ve retired all my Ceton Echos and XBox 360s and have a much smaller footprint by my TVs.
Maybe some day some crafty individual will get the there Ceton infiniTV6 card or Ethernet box working with Plex and share their secret with us. I myself have backed up all the firmware and downloads I can from Ceton before their site is dead for good. I also have my original Ceton infiniTV6 PCIe card, Ceton infiniTV6 ETH, a Ceton infiniTV4 USB and 2 Ceton Echos stocked away just in case.
